SETTLING IN WITH CHILDREN

Settling in with children

New friends need time – and opportunities

Arriving well

Unsere Firma Settling in after a family move: getting to know the neighbours, finding clubs, practising the way to school and keeping old friendships.

After a family move, the furniture is usually in place sooner than the first friendships. Children need opportunities to meet other children: the playground around the corner, the sports club, the music school or the courtyard party in the new building. The sooner you explore these places together, the faster the new surroundings become familiar. So that you have time for this, we take care of packing, carrying and assembly with a private move; we give you the fixed price after the survey.

Plan the first weeks deliberately: a free afternoon a week for exploring, a get-to-know-you visit to the new school or nursery and regular video calls with old friends help more than a perfectly arranged living room. With a long-distance move the distance to old friends is greater – which makes these rituals all the more important. Your belongings are covered by liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB), and additional insurance is available on request. We answer questions on 01625978461.

Survey, fixed price, fixed date

The fewer boxes are in the way after the move, the more time is left for the playground, clubs and neighbours. We assemble the furniture and put the boxes straight into the right rooms. You receive the fixed price after the survey – call us on 01625978461 for your family move.

Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

TIME FOR THE CHILDREN

What we take off your hands when you arrive

Assembling instead of searching boxes

The first days in the new home help determine how quickly children settle in. If the beds, desk and shelves are already in place on the evening of moving day, you can walk the way to school with the children the next morning instead of looking for screws. We give you the fixed price after the survey, and we are liable for transport damage under the HGB. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive nationwide, see Locations.

Assembly service

Cot, desk and shelves are in place on the evening of moving day, so that the first school day in the new place begins without searching through boxes.

Packing service

If we pack for you, the last week leaves time for farewell visits to friends instead of long evenings with tape and boxes.

No-parking zone

Short distances from the lorry to the front door shorten moving day; in Berlin the signs must be put up at least 72 hours beforehand.

Furniture transport

We load bikes, scooters and sports kit so that they are quickly to hand in the new place – for the first training session at the new club.
MAKING CONNECTIONS

Six ways to new friends

Friendships develop where children regularly see the same faces. These six places and habits help children make connections quickly in the new neighbourhood after a family move.

01

Playground and courtyard

In the first weeks, go to the same playground at fixed times – if you come regularly, you will soon see familiar faces again.
02

Sports club

Many clubs offer trial sessions. A team sport brings children together with the same children every week.
03

Music and courses

Music school, library, swimming lessons or scouts: activities with fixed groups make it easier to get started, even for shy children.
04

Talking to neighbours

A quick hello in the stairwell or a note on the letterbox opens doors – families with children often live in the same building.
05

Class and nursery

Ask about class parties, parents' evenings or nursery celebrations; there, parents also get to know other families.
06

Keeping old friends

Regular video calls, letters or a visit in the holidays show children that old friendships survive a move.
SMALL LOADS

Part load for late stragglers

Bringing sports equipment and the like later

Not everything has to come along on moving day: a trampoline, a workbench from the cellar or sports equipment can follow later. For such partial loads a part load (Beiladung) is suitable, where your goods travel on an existing tour – moving day itself becomes shorter.

SETTLING IN

From
the first day to the first friend

Arriving step by step

This part of the series is about the time after the family move: how children discover the new neighbourhood, where they meet other children and how old friendships live on. This includes get-to-know-you appointments at school or nursery, trial sessions at clubs and small rituals for the first weeks. How to involve children before the move is explained in the article Involving children in the move.

Exploring the surroundings

Walk the way to school, the bakery, the playground and the library together. A home-made map of the neighbourhood helps younger children find their way and see the new surroundings as their own.

Making contacts

A trial session, a get-to-know-you day in class, a hello to the neighbours: small, regular encounters are more important for children than a big welcome party.

Being patient

It often takes weeks or months for real friendships to develop. Setbacks are normal; stay approachable and acknowledge every small step your child takes.

FAQ

Questions about settling in after the move

Friends, clubs and old contacts.
A family move with small children works best with a clear schedule that starts at least six weeks before the moving date. Actively involve your children in the preparations, for example when sorting toys. Organise childcare on moving day itself, so that the children do not feel overwhelmed. As a moving company we are happy to advise you on the best timing.

Discovering the new neighbourhood together

In the first days after a family move, everything is unfamiliar: the way to the bakery, the noises in the building, the playground. So explore the surroundings together and in small stages. Walk the way to school with your child several times before they walk it alone, and point out landmarks to help them find their way. Younger children like to draw their own map of the new neighbourhood with their favourite places.

At the same time, keep familiar routines: the same mealtimes, the usual bedtime story, the weekend outing. These routines provide stability while a lot changes outside. So that you have time for this, our movers assemble beds and wardrobes on moving day itself.

Finding new friends, keeping old ones

Friendships develop through repetition. A club, a course or a regular playground time brings your child together with the same children every week. Ask at the new school or nursery about class parties and parents' evenings – there you will get to know other families too, and play dates come about more easily. Shy children benefit from activities with a fixed group, such as music school or swimming lessons.

Old friendships do not have to end: regular video calls, letters or a visit in the holidays show your child that the move is not a goodbye for ever. How to support children with worries about moving is explained in the article Moving stress in children.
