After Moving in Later Life: Who Needs to Know the New Address

Senior moves part 15
Pension, insurers, authorities: changing your address in later life
Forget nothing
With a senior move, more depends on the address than for younger people: the pension, health and long-term care insurers, often a care service, the home emergency call system and contracts that have been running for years. If a notification gets lost, in the worst case pension payments can stall. Through our private move services we take packing and transport off your hands – leaving time for the paperwork that you or your relatives deal with.
Important documents do not belong in a moving box, but in a folder that you carry yourself. We remind you of this during the survey and give you a checklist for authorities and contracts. The same deadlines also apply to a long-distance move to another city. Your belongings are covered by liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB); we quote the fixed price after the survey.

Plan your move – with a checklist for authorities and contracts
Fixed price after a survey, checklist
Simply call 01625978461 and arrange a free survey for your senior move. You then receive a written fixed price and our checklist for changing your address. Relatives organising the move for their parents can also arrange the appointment on their behalf.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

What we contribute
Transport with us, paperwork with you
We cannot deal with the authorities for you, but we can free your mind for it. We take care of packing, transport and assembly and remind you which documents do not belong in a box. With our checklist you keep track of deadlines such as the two weeks for registration. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive nationwide – destinations with their own page under Locations. Your belongings are covered by liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB).

Papers,
deadlines, addresses
Part 15 of our guide series deals with the paperwork for a move in later life: which documents belong in the moving folder, who needs to know the new address and which deadlines apply? The pension is especially important, because without a current address payment can be provisionally suspended. We also explain what to do about the broadcasting fee, insurers and insurance policies, so that seniors and relatives have a reliable list.

Questions about documents and changing your address
The moving folder: what must be to hand
Before anything is packed, a folder goes on the table that stays with you on moving day. It should contain your ID card, tenancy agreements for the old and new flat, the landlord confirmation for the Bürgeramt, pension notice, health insurance card, medication plan, care level notice and insurance policies.
A sheet listing every body that needs the new address goes at the front. That way relatives can help without searching for long, and nothing gets lost in the chaos of the move. Whatever is done gets ticked off; a trusted person also keeps copies of important notices in case the folder is ever mislaid.
Changing your address: pension, insurers, broadcasting fee, post
First, registration with the registration office within two weeks of moving in (§ 17 BMG). For the pension, Deutsche Post's Pension Service is responsible: the new address can be reported online or using a form from the post office, and the Pension Service passes it on to the pension insurance fund. If the pension cannot be delivered, payment is provisionally suspended.
Then the health and long-term care insurers, bank and insurance policies. How to update the broadcasting fee is explained in the article Updating the broadcasting fee. Anyone who needs help with the move itself can find it under Private move.
Price overview for your move
The cost of a move depends heavily on the size of the flat: we move a 1-room flat from as little as €359, while a 2-room flat is charged from €615. For a 3-room flat prices start at €894, larger 4-room flats from €1,324. For a house or villa we prepare an individual quote. Anyone moving further away pays from €3.90/km for long-distance moves. The best thing is to arrange a free survey to find out the exact price.
The moving price in detail: these factors play a part
Most important are the volume of your household goods and the distance to be driven, which we charge from €3.90/km. Added to this are the floor, lift and a possible parking restriction zone. Furniture assembly and a part load can also affect the final price.
