Senior move part 10

GP, pharmacy, prescriptions: arriving healthy at your new home

Moving with your care in place

Unsere Firma Medication plan, medical records and prescriptions: what older people should take care of for their health before moving.

Anyone moving at 75 or 85 often takes several medicines and is being treated by a GP and specialists. If you only move to the neighbouring area, everything usually stays the same. But with a move to another city, you need a new GP, a new pharmacy and the records from your previous practice. On the service page Private move you can see what we take care of when packing and setting up – so that there is time left for doctor's appointments.

Schedule your doctor's visits firmly before the move: prescriptions for the first few weeks, an up-to-date medication plan and copies of important test results. We are based in Berlin and drive nationwide; destinations with their own page can be found in the locations overview. If someone is moving to join their children in another city, we plan the long-distance move so that medication never ends up in the lorry.

What we pay attention to on moving day

Medication stays in your hands

Medication, a blood glucose meter or an inhaler do not belong in a moving box. During the survey we already ask which medicines and devices are needed every day, and plan a bag that stays with you. Only take medicines that need refrigerating out of the fridge on moving day. Our team takes care of packing, dismantling and transport, and your belongings are covered by liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB). Details under Private move, including furniture assembly.

Day bag

Medication, medication plan, health insurance card and glasses go into a bag that does not go in the lorry – we remind you of this while packing.

Calm planning

We do not schedule moving day on days with dialysis, chemotherapy or other fixed treatments, and we plan in enough breaks.

Senior moves

We take care of packing, dismantling and assembly, so that seniors keep their strength for doctor's visits and the first days in their new home after the senior move.

Devices handled gently

We pack medical devices that are not needed every day with padding and put them straight back in their place in the new flat.
HEALTH FIRST

Six steps in advance

These six steps ensure that medication, prescriptions and medical care come through the move well. It is best to take care of them four to six weeks before the moving date.

01

Update the medication plan

Anyone taking at least three prescribed medicines at the same time is entitled to a medication plan from their doctor (§ 31a SGB V) – important when changing doctors.
02

Copy your records

Patients can request access to their medical records and copies, including electronically (§ 630g BGB). Ask at the practice in good time.
03

Find a new GP

The doctor search and appointment service on 116117 help you find a practice at your new address. It is best to enquire even before moving in.
04

Get prescriptions in advance

Keep enough medication ready for the first few weeks. The e-prescription can be redeemed with your health insurance card at any pharmacy, including at your new home.
05

Inform your health insurer

The health and long-term care insurance funds need the new address. Also ask them about doctors, care services or therapists near the new flat.
06

Note emergency numbers

On the fridge: 112 for emergencies, 116117 for the out-of-hours medical service, plus the numbers of relatives and the new GP.
SMALL VOLUME, SMALL PRICE

Part load for few household goods

Shared trip, lower costs
With a part load, several jobs share one trip. This is worthwhile for individual pieces of furniture, a few boxes or an armchair. Because the collection and delivery dates can be chosen less freely, medication, an inhaler or a blood pressure monitor do not belong on this route, but in your day bag. We give you the price after a survey.

TOPICS IN PART 10

Doctors,
prescriptions, records

Healthy into the new flat

Part 10 of our series is about health when moving in old age: how do you find a new GP, which records do you take from the old practice, and how does medication stay within reach in the week of the move? If a long-distance move to another city is coming up, this becomes particularly important. We also show which emergency numbers should be to hand at the new address and why the health insurance fund should be told the new address early.

Finding a GP and specialists

Will your GP still be within reach, or do you need a new one? The doctor search on 116117 helps at the new address. Ask early – with a senior move as with a private move to another city, appointments are often scarce.

Keeping medication and devices safe

Medication in the day bag, devices padded: with our packing service and gentle furniture transport everything arrives safely, while medication for the day stays with you and does not disappear into a box.

Organising records and prescriptions

The medication plan, test results and doctors' letters belong in a folder that you carry yourself, so that the new doctor has everything quickly to hand. With few household goods, a part load lowers the cost; a no-parking zone shortens the distances on moving day.

FAQ

Questions about health and moving

Doctors, medication, prescriptions, costs.
For a senior move we recommend at least six to eight weeks' lead time, so that there is enough time for sorting, packing and doctor's visits. That way special needs such as medical aids or accessibility adjustments can also be taken into account in good time. Early planning considerably reduces stress and allows things to run smoothly on moving day itself.

GP and specialists at your new address

When moving to another city, it is best to start looking for a doctor even before moving in. The doctor search and the appointment service of the Associations of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians on 116117 help you find practices nearby.

From the old practice you can request access to your medical records and copies, including electronically (§ 630g BGB). Doctors' letters and test results make it easier for the new doctor to get started.

Getting medication and prescriptions safely through the move

Anyone taking at least three prescribed medicines at the same time is entitled to a medication plan (§ 31a SGB V). Have it updated before the move. You can redeem e-prescriptions with your health insurance card at any pharmacy.

What belongs in the bag on moving day is set out in part 7 on moving day.

What a senior move costs – starting prices

Whether a 1-room flat from €354 or a 4-room flat from €1,309 – our prices are based on the actual effort involved. 2-room flats from €594 and 3-room flats from €915 are also fairly calculated. For houses and villas there is an individual quote, and we charge long-distance moves from €3.85/km. Arrange your free survey today.

These points determine the price of your move

The most important factors are volume, distance (from €3.85/km), floor and a possibly missing lift. A no-parking zone can also mean additional effort. If you book furniture assembly or a part load, you should factor this in as well.

Services at a glance

These services take the heavy work off seniors and their relatives.

Moving to another city – with your care in place

If an older person is moving to join their children in another city, we plan the long-distance move from Berlin. Destinations with their own page can be found in the locations overview, and more about long-distance moves is also available from us.
