Commuter guide, part 7

Choosing your location by the timetable

Stop, frequency, changes

Unsere Firma Choosing where to live as a rail commuter: compare the walk to the stop, frequency, changes and ticket costs before you move.

If you travel to work by bus and train, you should choose your new flat by the timetable. Three questions help: how long is the walk to the nearest stop? How often does the line run at peak times? And how often do you have to change? A flat with a direct connection and frequent services is often quicker and more reliable in everyday life than one that is closer to the office on the map.

Also check the journey home in the evening and the connection at weekends if you travel then too. With the Deutschlandticket, the fare zone in local transport no longer matters – since 2026 it has cost €63 a month. Once the flat is settled, we plan the move: at Beste Umzug Unternehmen you receive a fixed price after the survey. More under Private move.

PERSONAL ADVICE

Found good connections? Then we will move you

Fixed price after a survey – the lorry drives for you

Rail commuters often have no car for the move – that is our part. Call us on 01625978461. We survey your flat, check access at both addresses and then give you a fixed price. On moving day you simply take the train to your new flat.

Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

WITHOUT A CAR OF YOUR OWN

How we take the move off rail commuters' hands

You take the train, we take the lorry

Many rail commuters do not have a car of their own – and they do not need one for the move either. We bring the vehicle, team and materials, check access at both addresses and, on request, apply for the no-parking zone. On moving day you follow by bus or train. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21, Moabit) and drive within the city, to the surrounding area and nationwide. We give you the fixed price after the survey; your belongings are covered by liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB).

Furniture transport

No car of your own, no problem: we bring the vehicle and team. Your sofa travels with our furniture transport, you yourself by train.

No-parking zone

In quiet residential streets close to the station, parking spaces are scarce. On request we apply in good time for the space for the no-parking zone.

Packing service

Long train journeys leave little time in the evening for packing. Our packing service takes care of the kitchen, books and cupboards when your week is full.

Assembly service

Dismantling, transport and assembly from a single source: with furniture assembly you need neither tools nor a drill on the S-Bahn – we bring everything with us.

How to recognise a good location for rail commuters

A good location for rail commuters can be checked before you sign. Note down these points for every flat – ideally during a test run at your real commuting time.

01

Short walk

Measure the walk from your front door to the platform. Five extra minutes each way is something you notice twice on every working day.
02

Frequent services

How often does the line run in the morning and evening? With frequent services you miss less – an infrequent service costs waiting time on the platform.
03

Few changes

Every change is a risk for your connection. A direct line is often more reliable than a faster connection with two changes.
04

Alternative route

Is there a second line in case the first is cancelled? An alternative route makes your journey to work predictable when there are disruptions.
05

Cycling to the station

Secure bike parking at the station shortens the journey. Check whether the building has a cellar or courtyard for your bike.
06

Ticket and subsidy

Ask about a job ticket. With a subsidy from your employer, the Deutschlandticket becomes significantly cheaper than €63 a month.
SMALL LOADS

Part load for commuters without a car

Small move, small price

With a part load, your belongings travel together with other jobs – affordable if you have little furniture and few boxes. Because the route has several stops, there is a time window rather than a fixed time. Plan a flexible day for it.

LIVING ON THE LINE

Location,
connections, move – in that order

First the timetable, then the tenancy agreement

For rail commuters, the flat search starts with the network map: which places are on a direct line to your workplace, and how often does it run? Only then come rent, size and floor plan. Check your journey to work at your real commuting time and note down the walk, frequency and changes. If the move makes the journey significantly longer, an honest comparison of time and rent is worthwhile. If your job takes you to another city, you will find information under Long-distance moves.

Checking connections

A list with the walk, frequency, changes and alternative line helps with every private move, senior move or student move: you compare flats by what you experience every day.

Moving without a car

With a suitable packing service, careful furniture transport and flexible small transport, you do not need a car of your own for the move – you travel by train, your furniture in the lorry.

Access and parking space

The same applies to an office move, company relocation, public authority move, part load or furniture taxi: flats close to the station are often in narrow streets – we sort out the parking space beforehand.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about location, rail and moving

Answers on dates, costs, connections, part loads, a longer journey to work, short-notice moves and insurance.
Put the move on a day when you do not have to commute, and allow four to six weeks' lead time – in Berlin the no-parking zone alone takes around four weeks. Rail commuters should also watch out for engineering works: if your line is closed on moving day, it is harder to get to the new flat.

Walk, frequency, changes: choosing your location by the timetable

Before you fix the moving date, the location should be right. For rail commuters this means: how far is it from the front door to the platform, how often does the line run at peak times, and how many changes does the journey to work need? A direct connection with frequent services is often more reliable than a faster one with two changes, where every missed connection costs time.

Also check whether there is an alternative line in case your route is closed, and what the connection looks like in the evening and at weekends. Test the route once at the real time – more on this in part 2 of this series.

Ticket, job ticket and bike: the costs of the new route

With the Deutschlandticket you can use local transport nationwide; since 2026 it has cost €63 a month and can be cancelled monthly. Ask your employer about the job ticket: if they contribute at least 25%, the ticket becomes cheaper still for you. Employer subsidies for local transport tickets are tax-free (§ 3 Nr. 15 EStG).

If you cycle to the station, look for secure parking. After the move, change your address on the ticket subscription so that post and invoices reach you.

What your move really costs

Moving costs depend heavily on the size of the flat. For a 1-room flat we start from €344, for a 2-room flat the price is from €579. A 3-room flat comes to from €894, while a 4-room flat costs from €1,289. For a house or villa we prepare an individual quote for you. For long-distance moves we charge from €4.25/km. The best option is to have a personal quote prepared as part of a free survey.

Calculating your moving price

For an exact price calculation, the moving volume, the number of kilometres (from €4.25/km) as well as the floor and lift play an important role. We also take into account whether a no-parking zone (Halteverbotszone) needs to be set up. On request we also take care of furniture assembly or a part load.
