BREAKS IN THE SHADE

Moving in the heat

Anyone carrying in the heat needs a plan for water and breaks

Keep cool

Unsere Firma Moving in the heat: drink enough, take breaks in the shade, wear light clothing and know the warning signs of heatstroke.

A summer move is heavy physical work in high temperatures. Climbing stairs, hauling boxes, tilting furniture – the body loses a lot of fluid through sweat. Anyone who fails to drink enough notices it through dizziness, headaches and fading concentration, and that is exactly when people trip on the stairs. For every private move a simple plan is therefore worthwhile: provide drinks, fix breaks in the shade and schedule the heaviest items for the cool morning hours.

During the free survey we also look at where there will be shade on moving day: the hallway, the courtyard entrance or a tree at the loading point. That way we avoid long waits in the sun for people and furniture. We quote the fixed price after the survey, and your belongings are covered by liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB) (§ 451e: €620 per m³). Call us on 01625978461 if you would like to discuss helpers, vehicle and schedule for your summer move.

Planning a summer move with helpers

Let others carry instead of sweating yourself

Moving dates are in high demand during the summer months. If you enquire early, you are more likely to get a date with an early start and can leave the heavy carrying to our helpers instead of hauling things yourself in the midday heat. You will learn the price after the survey – with no obligation for your private move.

Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

WORKING WITH CARE

What we pay attention to on hot moving days

Pace, yes – heat stress, no

In the heat, a steady pace is safer than rushing. We schedule the heaviest items for the morning hours, take turns carrying over several floors and take short breaks in the shade. Sturdy shoes remain a must even in high summer, because sandals on the stairs are an accident risk. We agree the price as a fixed price after a survey. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and move nationwide – you will find destinations in the locations overview.

Packing service

If we pack in advance, you do not have to spend days filling boxes in a warm flat – with a packing service you save your energy for moving day.

Taking turns

Over several floors our helpers take turns carrying. That way nobody spends hours on a hot staircase, and the pace stays the same throughout the whole moving day.

Senior moves

Older people suffer particularly in the heat. For a senior move we plan things so that you do not have to carry anything yourself and have a cool place to rest.

Shade at the loading point

We stage furniture in the hallway rather than on the sunny pavement. This protects both the finish and the helpers during furniture transport.
LOOK AFTER YOURSELF

Six rules against heat stress

These rules come from the recommendations for working outdoors in the heat and can be applied directly to moving day – for professionals as well as for friends who help with the carrying.

01

Drink regularly

Around two to three litres spread over the day, more if you sweat heavily. Water or unsweetened tea is best – do not wait until you feel thirsty to drink.
02

Short breaks in the shade

A few minutes in the shade after every heavy item help more than one long break at the end. Spend the lunch break indoors.
03

Heavy work in the morning

Heavy work belongs in the early morning hours. The highest temperatures are usually only reached in the afternoon – not at midday.
04

Light clothing

Airy, breathable clothing, a cap with a peak and neck protection, and sunglasses are part of the kit for working outdoors.
05

Sun protection

Sunscreen with a sun protection factor of 30 or higher – even if you work mostly in the shade. Sun protection is required from a UV index of 3.
06

No alcohol

Alcohol, lots of coffee and sugary drinks are poor companions on moving day. The after-work beer comes once the last box is in the flat.
LESS CARRYING

Part load: little luggage, little hauling

Small move, small price

If you are only moving a few pieces of furniture and boxes, you can use a part load (Beiladung): your belongings travel with other jobs on the same route. This saves costs, and you do not have to load a van yourself in the heat. Put your things ready in the cool hallway.

SUMMER MOVE

Moving
healthily in the heat

Well planned and careful

Heat affects not only furniture but above all the people doing the carrying. If you have children, older relatives or people with heart or kidney conditions in your household, do not let them help with the carrying on moving day, and prepare a cool room for them. If there are pre-existing conditions, check the right amount to drink with your doctor. If a long-distance move is coming up, there is one more point: drivers need breaks and drinks in the cab.

Who helps, who takes it easy

A list clarifies in advance who carries and who should take it easy. That way your private move, senior move or student move stays safe even on hot days – with enough helpers for the floors and a cool place to retreat to.

Saving energy when carrying

With a packing service, well-practised furniture transport and a small removal for single items, neither you nor your friends have to spend hours hauling things in the sun.

Dates in summer

An office move or company relocation can also be scheduled for cooler times of day or the weekend; a part load and a furniture taxi save energy and costs for small quantities.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions on heat and health during a move

Answers on how much to drink, breaks, clothing, heatstroke and sun protection on moving day.
A summer move brings high temperatures that strain both furniture and movers. Demand for moving companies is also particularly high at this time of year, so dates should be booked early. That is why we plan every private move individually and take climatic conditions into account from the start.

Shade at the loading point – for people and furniture

Direct sun is hard not only on paint, veneer and plastic, but also on the helpers waiting next to the vehicle for the next trip. So find a shady collection point at the planning stage: the hallway, a passageway or the courtyard entrance. Boxes of books or electronics belong there, not on the hot pavement.

Instead of cling film, moving blankets protect furniture without trapping heat and moisture. During furniture transport we load quickly and without long waiting times, so that people and furniture spend as little time as possible in the sun.

Drinking and breaks: how much the body needs

For work in the heat, around two to three litres of fluid over the day are recommended, more if you sweat heavily. Water and unsweetened teas are best; it is better to limit coffee and sugary drinks. Place a crate of water in a shady spot that everyone passes.

Short breaks of a few minutes in the shade help more than one long break at the end. If you do not want to rope in friends for the hauling, book moving helpers for the heavy items.

Cost overview for your summer move

Transparency matters to us: a 1-room flat costs from €365, a 2-room flat from €615, a 3-room flat from €915 and a 4-room flat from €1,299. For a house or villa you receive an individual quote, and long-distance moves cost from €4.20/km. Contact us for a free survey.

What helpers, floor and time cost

With every move, volume and distance (from €4.20/km) play the biggest role. But the floor, a lift and a parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone) also have an effect. For more flexibility we offer furniture assembly and part loads.

Services that take the carrying off your hands
