Home office in your new home: plan internet, equipment and workspace
Workspace first
Anyone who works from a home office quickly notices during a move what has to work first: the internet. So notify your provider of the move of your connection early – it must continue to provide the service at the new address without changing the contract term if it offers it there, and may charge a reasonable fee for this (§ 60 TKG). If it does not offer the service there, you can cancel with one month's notice. Until the new connection is activated, a mobile router helps. Also clarify with your employer from when you will be working from the new address.
For the equipment: back up data, photograph and label cables, pack monitors and printers with padding – ideally in their original boxes. Transport your laptop, hard drives and confidential work documents yourself. A moving company is liable for damage to the goods moved under the German Commercial Code up to €620 per cubic metre; you can additionally insure expensive equipment on request. Tell us during the survey that you work from a home office: we load the desk, chair and equipment so that they go into the study first at the new home. You receive the fixed price in advance – whether a move within the city or a long-distance move to another region.

If only the study is moving – for example to a second home – a shared load can be cheaper than a separate transport. Desk, chair and shelf travel along with other jobs; in return, a time window applies instead of a fixed date. You take the laptop and data of your home office equipment with you yourself.

When it comes to a home office in your new home, a lot depends on the order: first internet and electricity, then desk and equipment, and finally decorations and the bookcase. Finding the ideal home office room in your new home
Before the move begins, it is worth planning your future workspace carefully. Look for enough daylight, a quiet location away from through traffic and enough floor space for a desk and shelves. Proximity to an internet socket or router should also be considered when choosing the room, to avoid later alterations.
Also plan enough power sockets for monitors, printers and other office equipment. Draw a simple plan beforehand of where the desk and shelf should go in the new home office, so that you can work with full concentration from the start.
Moving equipment and documents safely
Electronic devices such as laptops, monitors and printers need special protection against knocks and moisture during transport. We use padding material and sturdy boxes to bring your technical equipment safely to the new workspace. Important documents and folders should be clearly labelled and packed separately from private items.
It is best to take your laptop, hard drives and confidential documents with you yourself. For damage to the other goods moved, the moving company is liable under the German Commercial Code up to €620 per cubic metre; for expensive equipment, additional insurance on request makes sense.

Price factors of a move at a glance
The price of your move depends mainly on the volume of your household and the distance between the two homes – we calculate transparently from €4.15/km. The floor, whether there is a lift and any parking restriction zone required also affect the costs. Additional services such as furniture assembly or a shared load can change the price individually.
