Bulky furniture in a single person's move: bed wardrobe and sofa without helpers

Singles guide · Part 2
When nobody lends a hand: moving bulky furniture properly
Individual items safely to their destination
In a single person's move, it is rarely the boxes that cause problems but the large items: the wardrobe, bed frame, sofa and washing machine. They can hardly be carried safely alone. Our team dismantles them, pads them and sets them up again in the new flat. You can see which services are included under private move. We quote the fixed price after the survey.
A tape measure helps in advance: measure the doors, hallway and stairwell of the new flat and compare the figures with the large furniture. This shows early on whether the sofa will fit round the corner or whether a furniture lift is needed. For the transport we are liable under the German Commercial Code (HGB); for valuable items additional insurance is available on request. Call us on 01625978461 for free advice.

A large piece of furniture? Arrange a survey
Check the measurements, get a fixed price
During the survey we look at the wardrobe, bed and sofa and check whether they need to be dismantled. Call us on 01625978461. You then receive a fixed price for dismantling, transport and assembly.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

How we move bulky furniture
Tools, blankets, straps
A wardrobe with sliding doors, a box-spring bed or a corner sofa can hardly be moved alone – let alone through a narrow stairwell. We bring tools, blankets and straps, dismantle the furniture, label the screws and fittings and reassemble everything at the destination. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and operate nationwide; we quote the fixed price after a survey. The locations overview shows whether your destination has its own page.

Bulky furniture needs preparation – from the tape measure to the bag of screws. This order has proven its worth in a single person's move when nobody from your circle of friends can help with carrying and assembly.

Large
furniture without helpers
Part 2 is about the heaviest items in a single person's move: the wardrobe, bed, sofa and washing machine. We show how to measure the routes, prepare furniture for dismantling and label screws so that assembly is quick. We also cover the flat handover and the first steps after moving in. If you are moving further away, you will find tips under long-distance moves.

Frequently asked questions about bulky furniture in a single person's move
Wardrobe, bed, sofa: organising large furniture on your own
If you are moving alone, you should think carefully in advance about which pieces of furniture really come along. It is often worth selling or donating old or impractical furniture instead of transporting it at great cost. This reduces not only the packing effort but also the transport volume and therefore the costs of the move.
Our team supports you with the professional dismantling and assembly of furniture so that nothing is damaged. Especially with bulky individual items such as wardrobes or beds, professional help is advisable to spare your back and your nerves. What to do if the stairwell is too narrow is explained in the article Furniture through a narrow stairwell.
After moving in: handover, re-registration, contracts
Directly after the move, do not forget to re-register at the residents' registration office (Einwohnermeldeamt) – in Germany you have two weeks after moving in to do so (§ 17 BMG); you must bring the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) from your landlord. Contracts for electricity, internet and insurance should also be updated promptly so that there are no gaps in supply.
Also make a conscious effort to take time to furnish the new flat bit by bit, instead of trying to do everything in one day. This keeps moving in relaxed, and you can enjoy your new home from the very beginning.
