Decluttering before a single person's move: keep sell, donate

Singles guide · Part 1
What does not come along, nobody has to carry
Decluttering with a system
If you live alone, you decide alone what comes along – and when decluttering, that is an advantage. Put three boxes in each room: keep, sell, donate. Anything that fits into none of the boxes belongs with the bulky waste or at the recycling centre. Start with the cellar, the storage room and the wardrobe, because that is where the most accumulates. How we then take over transport and assembly is explained under private move.
Decluttering has a direct effect on the price: the less volume, the smaller the vehicle and the shorter the loading time. During the survey we look at what is left after sorting out and then quote a fixed price. So schedule the decluttering before the survey appointment. On request, we collect larger quantities that nobody wants any more as part of a house clearance.

Sort out first, then arrange the survey
Fixed price after a survey – for what remains
Call us on 01625978461 as soon as the boxes are sorted. During the free survey we estimate the remaining volume and then quote a fixed price. Whatever you have sold or given away beforehand, you do not pay to transport.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

How we take over after decluttering
Only move what stays
We take over the part that is left after sorting out: packing, carrying, transport and assembly. Anything that no longer has a place can be collected as part of a house clearance – separately from the move or on the same day. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and operate nationwide; we quote the fixed price after the survey. For the transport we are liable under the German Commercial Code (HGB); additional insurance is available on request. The locations overview shows whether your destination has its own page.

How to declutter before moving
Decluttering is easier with a fixed order. These six steps lead from a full cellar to a well-organised keep box – and to a smaller move.
Set up three boxes
Start with the cellar
Measure the new flat
List items early
Donate and dispose
Then have the survey done
Not much left? Then a shared load often fits

Sorting
out with a plan
The first part of the series "Moving tips for singles" is about the step before packing: decluttering. We show how the three-box method works, in which order to tackle the rooms and where to get rid of furniture, clothes and books. We also look at when a shared load is worthwhile after sorting out. The further parts cover furniture transport, boxes, the schedule and contracts.

Frequently asked questions about decluttering and moving as a single person
Before the move: decluttering and sensibly reducing your inventory
A move as a single person is the perfect opportunity to take a critical look at your own possessions. Sorting out consistently in advance not only saves space in the removal van but often also hard cash, because less volume has to be transported. The best approach is a simple three-box method: keep, sell, donate. Where furniture in good condition can find a second life is explained in the article Donating furniture instead of throwing it away.
Especially with smaller flats, a realistic assessment of the space actually needed in the new home is worthwhile. This way you avoid unnecessary pieces of furniture moving with you that end up not being needed after all. Our private moving service supports you with a free assessment of the vehicle and boxes required.
Moving day: efficiently organised without a team of helpers
Without family or friends nearby, good time planning on moving day is especially important. The evening before, prepare a box with the most important things such as charging cables, documents and toiletries so that you are ready to go straight away at your new home. This prevents unnecessary searching and chaos directly after arrival.
Instead, rely on a professional team that takes care of packing, transport and assembly – a huge saving of time and energy, especially for a single person's move. We are also reliably there for you over longer distances, for example with our long-distance moves to other federal states.
What the move costs after decluttering
So that you can plan your move in a relaxed way, here are the key figures: 1-room flat from €359, 2-room flat from €579, 3-room flat from €894, 4-room flat from €1,324. For a house or villa you receive an individual quote; for long-distance moves we charge from €4.25/km. The first step is always a free survey – ideally after sorting out.
Volume, floor, distance: what determines the price
The amount of the moving costs depends on the distance (from €4.25/km), the volume and local conditions such as the floor or a lift. A required parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone) adds to the effort. Further services such as furniture assembly or a shared load can be calculated separately.
