The most common causes of moving stress
Moving stress usually arises from a lack of preparation, too little time for packing and unclear arrangements with the landlord or removal company. Deadlines are also often underestimated: in Berlin you should apply for the parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone) at the district office (Bezirksamt) two to four weeks in advance, and the signs must be in place at least 72 hours beforehand. After moving in, you have two weeks to register at the Bürgeramt.
Another stress factor is a lack of structure when packing: if you go about it without a system, you lose track and spend a long time searching when unpacking. Also ask your employer for a day off in good time – there is no general statutory entitlement to special leave for a move, but some collective agreements provide for one day.
How to have a stress-free moving day
On moving day itself, one thing above all counts: a clear division of roles. While our team takes care of the transport, you can concentrate on handing over the old flat and final arrangements. It is also important that all boxes are clearly labelled so that they can be taken straight into the right room at the destination.
