Student moves

Student move: small volume, tight date, clear price

Understanding costs

Unsere Firma One room, one bike, lots of boxes: in a student move, volume, floor and date determine the price.

A student move differs significantly from a classic private move: usually only a few pieces of furniture, but a tight budget and a fixed date. At Beste Umzug Unternehmen students receive a fixed price, which is set after a survey or based on your details by phone on 01625978461. This lets you calculate the move into a shared flat, halls of residence or your first flat of your own precisely. Around the start of the semester – at universities usually 1 October and 1 April – dates are in demand, so it is worth enquiring early.

For damage we are liable under the German Commercial Code (HGB) (§ 451e: €620 per m³); for a laptop or instrument, additional insurance can make sense. If your parents' flat is moving as well as your room in a shared flat, our private move is the right fit. We are based in Berlin and also travel to other university cities; destinations with their own page are listed under Locations. We clarify typical hurdles such as narrow stairwells in old buildings, halls' rules on moving in and out or a lack of parking beforehand, so that the move stays predictable.

PERSONAL ADVICE

Enquire about a student move and receive a fixed price

Describe the room, name the date, get the price

Call us on 01625978461 and describe the room size, floor and route – you will then receive an individual quote for your student move. The fixed price is based on what actually comes along. Short-notice moves at the start of term are also possible, depending on our workload.

Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

SMALL, BUT CAREFUL

What students can rely on with us

Done quickly, clearly calculated

With a student move, small budgets, tight time windows and often just one room are what count. We plan team and vehicle to match the volume and clarify halls' rules, floor and parking in advance, so that working time – and therefore the costs – stay manageable. We state the price as a fixed price after a survey or based on your inventory list; for damage we are liable under the German Commercial Code (HGB). If you are going to another university city, we also handle long-distance moves – or a cheaper part load.

Packing yourself

Packing and labelling boxes yourself saves working time. If you are short of time, book the packing service just for the kitchen and books.

Small vehicle

A room in a shared flat often fits into one van. Vehicle and team are based on the volume – so you do not pay for space you do not need.

Fixed date

The start of the tenancy and the start of term leave little leeway. We set the moving day bindingly so that it does not clash with lectures and exams.

Dismantling and reassembling furniture

We dismantle the loft bed, desk and shelves and reassemble them in the new room. Screws go into labelled bags – nothing gets lost during the move.
PRICE FACTORS

What sets the price

The costs of a student move depend on volume, floor and distance – and on how much you do yourself. This way you can estimate before enquiring where savings can be made.

01

Volume

A furnished room with boxes is loaded quickly, a whole flat is not. Selling or giving things away beforehand means paying less for the move.
02

Floor and lift

An old building on the fourth floor without a lift costs considerably more carrying time than halls of residence with a large goods lift.
03

Route

Within the city, working time counts; for a change to another university city, the kilometres. For long distances, it is worth comparing with a part load.
04

Date

At the end of September and the end of March many students move. If you can go a few days earlier or later, you will find a free date more easily.
05

Doing it yourself

Packing yourself, dismantling furniture beforehand, getting second-hand boxes: every bit of work you do yourself reduces the working time in the quote.
06

Liability

Statutory liability is based on cubic metres, not on value. So it is better to take your laptop and papers with you yourself.
SAVING OPTION

Student move as a part load

Share load space, cut costs
A part load saves costs because empty runs are avoided: bed, desk and boxes travel along on a route that is planned anyway. Well suited to moving to another city for a master's degree or moving back in with your parents – with an agreed collection window and secured cargo.

STUDIES AND MOVING

Typical
moves during your studies

From halls to a master's move

As a student you often move several times: into halls, into your first shared flat, to another city for your master's and after graduating for your first job. Each time you have to register your new address at the registration office (Bürgeramt) within two weeks, with the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung). If parents or siblings are moving at the same time, our private move is the right fit; if you are going to another region, you will find information under Long-distance moves. Tips on sharing load space can be found in the article Part load for students.

Planning for the start of term

Start of tenancy, enrolment, registration: a short checklist keeps the student move on schedule – smaller than a private move, but with fixed deadlines. Quite different from a calm senior move.

Little furniture, lots of boxes

Books in small boxes, loft bed dismantled, bike secured: with a packing service only for heavy items, furniture transport and a small transport, the move stays affordable.

Affordable options

Single pieces of furniture from the classifieds by furniture taxi, a whole room as a part load: unlike an office move or company move, every euro of the budget counts here.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions on the cost of a student move

Answers on price, dates, part loads and liability.
The costs of a student move depend on volume, floor and distance, so there is no reliable average figure. The starting price for a 1-room flat in our price list serves as a guide. After a short conversation on 01625978461 or a survey, you receive a fixed price.

How a student move works

The process usually starts with a short phone call in which we record the room size, floor, route and preferred date; for larger volumes we come for a survey. You then receive a fixed price. On moving day we carry furniture and boxes, transport them and, on request, reassemble the bed and desk.

A typical student move with one room within the city is often done in a few hours. Check beforehand whether the halls have fixed times for moving in and out or for handing over keys.

How to make your student move cheaper

To save costs, plan early and sort things out beforehand: whatever is sold or given away does not have to be transported. A date outside the peak periods at the end of September and the end of March is easier to get. Boxes are often available second-hand.

If several students are moving in the same direction, a shared part load can reduce the costs. And remember to register: within two weeks of moving in, at the registration office (§ 17 BMG). We will advise you on what makes sense for your student move.

Starting prices by flat size

  • No hidden costs – 1 room from €369
  • Fair scale – 2 rooms from €589
  • Transparent prices – 3 rooms from €905
  • For large households too – 4 rooms from €1,289
  • House/villa: individual quote
  • Long-distance moves: from €3.85/km, transparently calculated

We clarify all the details in a free survey.

What makes a student move more or less expensive

The decisive factors are the volume of your belongings and the distance, which we calculate at €3.85/km. The floor and whether there is a lift also count. A no-parking zone in front of the halls and booked services such as furniture assembly or a part load also play a role.
