What exactly is a shared load?
With a shared load, your belongings are loaded together with other customers' goods into a lorry that is travelling the same route anyway. Instead of booking a complete van just for your few pieces of furniture, you share the cargo space – and with it the costs. This makes the method particularly attractive for smaller moves, single-item transports or students with a modest household.
It usually requires some flexibility on timing, as the transport is linked to the route planning of other jobs. If you do not depend on a fixed day, a shared load saves you a noticeable amount compared with an exclusive transport.
How to make your shared load even cheaper
The price of a shared load is determined mainly by volume, route and the effort on site. These are the points where you can save yourself:
- Declutter first: what does not travel takes up no cargo space. Better to sell or give away old furniture.
- State the volume accurately: a complete furniture list prevents too much space being reserved or extra charges on the day of collection.
- Be flexible on the date: a few days' leeway makes it easier to combine with other jobs.
- Pack and dismantle yourself: boxes packed and ready and beds taken apart shorten the working time.
- Clarify access: short carrying distances and a free parking space in front of the building save time; where necessary, a parking restriction zone helps.
