Household appliances
Transporting a washing machine: transit lock, residual water, carrying
Step by step
Transporting a washing machine sounds simple, but it carries risks for your back and the appliance. The transit lock is crucial: the bolts at the back hold the drum in place so that the shock absorbers and bearings do not suffer. With a sack truck, straps and blankets we carry every washing machine upright through the stairwell. That way the appliance and walls stay intact.
On request we disconnect the inlet and drain hoses, fit the transit lock and reconnect the appliance in its new place. The service is part of our private move offer and can be combined with other services. We secure tumble dryers, fridges and dishwashers in the same way. We state the price as a fixed price after a survey. Call us on 01625978461.

Besides the washing machine, other appliances usually move too: the fridge should stand for a while after the transport before it runs again, the dishwasher is drained like the washing machine, and the tumble dryer needs an emptied condensate container. Frequently asked questions on transporting a washing machine
Preparing the washing machine properly
Before you transport your washing machine, do the last load a few days beforehand and let the machine dry out with the door open. Then turn off the tap and disconnect the inlet and drain hoses. It is important to refit the transit lock – the bolts at the back hold the drum in place and protect the shock absorbers and bearings.
Also drain the residual water via the lint filter or the emergency drain hose, so that nothing leaks out when the machine is tilted onto the sack truck. Fix the hoses and power cable to the machine with tape. On request we take care of this preparation for you.
Carrying, strapping down, reconnecting
When transporting the washing machine, the rule is: carry it upright and strap it down upright. With straps and a sack truck we move the appliance in a back-friendly way and protect the stairwell and door frames with blankets. That way every washing machine is transported safely, regardless of floor or access route.
At the destination, first remove the transit bolts and keep them, then connect the hoses and level the appliance. After a transport in freezing temperatures, let the machine warm up for a few hours before washing.

What makes a move with appliances more or less expensive
Volume, distance and structural conditions such as the floor or a lift are decisive – heavy appliances in an old building without a lift need more carriers. We charge the route from €4.25/km, plus a no-parking zone where required. Furniture assembly or a part load complement the quote.

Appliances over long distances
Over long distances the transit lock is particularly important, because the drum is exposed to vibrations for longer. We are based in Berlin and travel nationwide; more under Long-distance moves, destinations with their own page in the locations overview.
