Moving a box-spring bed
Moving a box-spring bed: dismantle, protect, reassemble
Move your bed safely
Moving a box-spring bed almost always means taking it apart. The headboard, bases, mattresses and topper are carried separately, because assembled, a box-spring bed is much heavier and bulkier than an ordinary bed frame. How much the individual parts weigh depends on the size, the spring core and the storage box – for many models it is stated in the manufacturer's data sheet. Our movers protect mattresses with protective covers and edges with blankets so that the upholstery fabric and springs neither get dirty nor develop pressure marks.
As part of our private moving service, we can dismantle and reassemble your box-spring bed on request; read more under furniture assembly. Beforehand we check door widths, the stairwell and the lift so that the bases fit through without damaging walls or the bed itself. The survey before a move is free of charge; places with their own pages can be found under Locations. The aim is for your bed to stand just as sturdily in your new home as it did before.

What matters with a box-spring bed
Heavy, bulky, delicate
A box-spring bed poses three challenges: the parts are heavy, they are bulky, and both the upholstery fabric and the spring core are delicate. That is why we carry bases and mattresses separately, protect the fabrics from dirt and moisture and secure the parts in the lorry, upright or flat depending on the design, so they cannot slip. Mattresses should not be bent in the process. Whether within Berlin or as a long-distance move: we agree with you in advance what will be dismantled, what the transport route looks like and who will handle reassembly.

How we support you
With a box-spring bed, the details make the difference: a missing set of screws, a wet mattress, a scratch on the headboard. These six points make sure your bed arrives complete and undamaged in your new bedroom.

A single box-spring bed as a shared load
If you are not moving house but only need a box-spring bed taken somewhere else, a shared load can be cheaper: the dismantled bed travels packed on a lorry that is heading that way anyway. Instead of a fixed day, we agree a time window for this.

Your
move – fully organised
Besides the box-spring bed, a move involves other bulky furniture that has to be dismantled – such as wardrobes with sliding doors or corner cabinets. Electrical appliances, glass and porcelain need their own packaging. For longer distances we plan long-distance moves, including with delicate furniture. And alongside the bed, formalities belong on the list: giving notice on the old flat (for tenants without any other agreement, around three months, § 573c BGB) and registering at the new address within two weeks (§ 17 BMG).

Questions about moving a box-spring bed
How to prepare your box-spring bed for the move
Before the movers arrive, you should remove bedding, topper and loose cushions to get the box-spring bed ready for dismantling. Also check whether there are electric adjustment mechanisms so that the cables can be disconnected safely.
Photograph the construction before dismantling to make reassembly easier later. This saves our specialists time, and your bed is ready for use again sooner at the new address.
Transport protection for delicate materials
Many box-spring beds have high-quality fabric covers that can easily get dirty or tear. We use special protective film and blankets to keep the material well protected during transport.
The edges and feet of the bed frame are also padded so that no scratches occur during loading and unloading. That way your bed arrives at its destination in perfect condition.
