Shared Load: Insurance & Safety

Moving company Berlin
Shared load: how far liability and load securing go
Understanding liability
With a shared load, several customers share one load space, which lowers costs – but it changes nothing about the care taken during loading. Our team pads your furniture with blankets, secures it with ratchet straps and keeps it apart from other consignments so that nothing shifts on the way. For private moves with smaller volumes, a shared load is often the most economical solution.
We are liable for your belongings under the German Commercial Code (HGB): up to €620 per cubic metre of load space your job requires (§ 451e HGB). We inform you about this before the contract is concluded, as well as about the option of additional insurance. We record the condition of your items before loading. The fixed price is set before booking and includes all agreed services.

Why Beste Umzug Unternehmen?
Quality at a fixed price
We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21, Moabit) and, when loading, we treat a shared load like any other move: blankets, straps and a dedicated space for every consignment. We are liable for your belongings under the rules of the HGB; we explain the scope and limits of this liability before booking so that you can decide whether to take out extra insurance. For long-distance moves, too, a fixed price applies without renegotiation.

Whether a shared load is safe is decided in two places: during loading – padding, straps, separate spaces – and in the liability. Statutory liability under the HGB is limited to €620 per cubic metre; if you are sending something more valuable, you should discuss additional insurance beforehand.

Questions about liability and safety
How does insurance work for a shared load?
With a shared load, the moving company is liable for your belongings under the German Commercial Code (HGB). This liability is limited: to €620 per cubic metre of load space required for your job (§ 451e HGB). The company must inform you clearly and prominently about this limit, and about the option of agreeing higher liability or insuring the goods, before the contract is concluded (§ 451g HGB). So declare valuable items in advance; there is more on moving insurance in our separate guide.
The deadlines are important: externally visible damage or losses must be reported no later than the day after delivery, and hidden damage within 14 days (§ 451f HGB). Check your belongings with us on delivery – on long-distance moves too.
Safety through load securing on a shared load
The safety of your furniture is the top priority on a shared load, which is why every consignment is secured individually. Ratchet straps, anti-slip mats and blankets make sure nothing shifts or gets damaged. Our staff combine different types of load so that they do not damage each other.
Before departure, the entire load is checked once more. This careful preparation considerably reduces the risk of damage and keeps you satisfied. So you can sit back and relax while we take care of everything.

How is the moving price calculated?
The basis is always the volume of your belongings. On top of that come the distance (from €4.15/km), the floor and whether a lift is available. For a smooth process on narrow streets, we recommend a parking restriction zone. We are happy to combine this with furniture assembly or shared load.
