Sending furniture as a shared load

Shared load
Single pieces of furniture as a shared load: good value if you are flexible
How the shipment works
If you only want to send a sofa, a wardrobe or an heirloom, you do not need a lorry of your own. With a shared load of furniture your item travels on a vehicle that is going in the same direction anyway; you only pay for the space it needs. For this to work we need exact dimensions, the floor at both addresses and a note on whether there is a lift. Good padding with blankets and film protects corners and fronts.
The price of the saving is flexibility: instead of a fixed date you get a time window for collection and delivery. That suits an heirloom going to the children, less so the bed that has to be in place on moving-in day. We combine shared loads with our long-distance moves and trips within Berlin; we give you the time window when you book.

Fixed price and time window in advance
For a furniture shared load we need the dimensions, number of items, pick-up and delivery addresses, as well as floor and lift. We then give you a fixed price and a time window for collection and delivery. Call us on 01625978461; for larger quantities we carry out a survey first.

Dimensions, padding, time window
And an honest answer on liability
With a shared load of furniture three things count: exact dimensions, good packaging and a realistic time window. We are based in Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21) and take single pieces of furniture on trips that are heading your way anyway – within Berlin or on our long-distance moves. We are liable for damage under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre of cargo space; for a single valuable item this may be below its value, in which case additional insurance makes sense. You can find further destinations under locations.

How your piece of furniture arrives intact
A furniture shared load is good value because several shipments share one lorry. To make sure your item arrives intact and is found quickly, a few rules apply – from dismantling and labelling to covering its value.
Dismantle where possible
Pad well
Label clearly
Allow for a time window
Photograph existing damage
Cover the value
Send at low cost by shared load

Choosing
the right solution
Besides a shared load for single items, there is the complete private move for whole households and furniture transport on a fixed date. Which solution fits depends on quantity, time pressure and route: a sofa with no rush travels cheaply as a shared load, a whole flat by a set deadline is better with its own lorry. More on weighing this up in the guide When is a shared load worthwhile.

Frequently asked questions about furniture shared loads
How a furniture shared load works, step by step
First we need the dimensions and approximate weight of your furniture, plus both addresses with floor and lift. This tells us how much cargo space is needed and which trip your shared load can travel on. You receive a fixed price and a time window for collection and delivery; because several shipments are combined, a fixed day is not always possible.
On collection day the item should be packed, or at least empty, dismantled and easily accessible. On request we add extra padding with blankets and carry the furniture into the room you want at the destination. We are liable for damage under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre; for valuable single items additional insurance makes sense. Check the delivery as soon as it arrives.
Advantages of a shared load over a complete move
The biggest advantage of a furniture shared load is the price, because you share the cargo space with other shipments. For a sofa, a wardrobe or a few boxes, a whole removal van is rarely worth it. The more flexible you are on the date, the more easily your item fits onto a trip that is happening anyway.
The limits: you get a time window instead of a fixed date, and statutory liability is limited to €620 per cubic metre. For furniture that has to be in place on a particular day, or for very valuable pieces, a dedicated transport with additional insurance is often the better choice.

What influences the moving price?
The price of your move depends mainly on the volume of your household goods and the distance, usually charged from €4.20/km. The floor, whether there is a lift and any required parking restriction zone also play a part. Extra services such as furniture assembly or shared load can affect the price further.
