Planning your move backwards

Planning method
Planning your move backwards: from a fixed date to every deadline
From the target day back to today
When you plan your move backwards, you do not start with the first box; instead you first set the fixed moving date and work your way back in time to today. This method immediately shows which tasks must be done when, so that everything runs smoothly on moving day. Especially with a private move or a complex long-distance move, this structure gives you maximum control over the entire process.
We at Beste Umzug Unternehmen discuss with you during the survey which dates result from your preferred day – matched to the size of your flat and the route. This helps you avoid typical mistakes such as giving notice too late or a missing parking restriction. We quote the fixed price after the survey, your goods are covered under the HGB, and additional insurance is available on request. More about our services can be found under private move.

Secure the moving day first, then count backwards
Planned backwards, moved forwards
Call us on 01625978461 and request your preferred date – it is the fixed point of your backward planning. After the survey you receive a quote with a fixed price, and together we decide by when boxes, the parking restriction and the packing date need to be sorted.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

Why a fixed moving day makes planning easier
One date, many deadlines
With backward planning, everything hinges on moving day. That is why we confirm the date bindingly after the survey and quote a fixed price before the other deadlines start running. From this date it follows when the notice must go out, when the parking restriction is applied for and when the boxes are delivered. On request we take care of the parking restriction, packing, transport and assembly; your goods are covered under the HGB. Whether a private move in Berlin or a long-distance move across Germany – we are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive nationwide.

What a good backward plan sticks to
When planning your move backwards, clear arrangements count for us: fixed dates, written quotes and a contact person who knows which deadline is due next.
Longest deadline first
Authorities with lead time
Clear agreements

Part load in the backward plan
With a part load, the date depends on the tour on which your goods travel. So plan backwards with a time window of a few days instead of a fixed deadline – and enquire early so that the period fits your flat handover.

Counted
backwards: three stages
Backward planning covers key topics such as the notice periods for the old flat, registration appointments at the residents' registration office and applying for a parking restriction zone in good time. House clearance, packing the boxes and booking the moving company must also be scheduled in the right order, counting back from the target day. Structuring these topics early helps you avoid time pressure in the last days before the move. Our checklists help you not to forget any important step.

Frequently asked questions about backward planning
How backward planning works step by step
Start with the fixed moving date and count backwards from there: as a tenant you usually need three months to give notice on the old flat (§ 573c BGB) – so it is the first deadline. The moving company should be booked about eight weeks beforehand, and the application for a parking restriction submitted four to five weeks beforehand; in Berlin the district office expects around four weeks' processing. Two weeks beforehand you switch electricity, internet and insurance.
In the last week before moving day, only the last boxes should still be packed and the fridge emptied. After moving in, registration at the citizens' office follows within two weeks.
Avoiding typical mistakes in backward planning
A common mistake is booking the moving company too late, especially for a long-distance move in the peak season between May and September. Applying for the parking restriction zone is also often forgotten, which can lead to unnecessary stress and extra costs on moving day. Further information on dates can be found under long-distance moves.
Many people also underestimate the time needed to clear out old furniture and boxes. With our backward planning and a fixed contact person at Beste Umzug Unternehmen, you reliably avoid these pitfalls.
Price range for your backward plan
As a guide for your move planning: 1 room from €359, 2 rooms from €579, 3 rooms from €909, 4 rooms from €1,299. If you live in a house or villa, you receive an individual quote. For long-distance moves, from €3.95/km also applies. The calculation is most accurate after a free survey.
What determines the quote at the start of your backward plan
Most important are the volume of your household goods and the distance to be driven, which we charge from €3.95/km. Then come the floor, lift and a possible parking restriction zone. Furniture assembly and a part load can also influence the final price.
Services that shorten deadlines
These services can be placed at the right point in your backward plan.
- Company move – with a longer lead time, because IT and the lease have to be planned too.
- House clearance – early in the plan, so that there is less to pack.
- Part load – affordable, with a time window.
- Furniture transport – single items before or afterwards.
- Private move – the fixed point of your plan.
- Move with assembly – dismantling and assembly on moving day.
Planning backwards over long distances too
With a long-distance move, the parking restriction at the destination and the journey are added – you count both back from moving day in the same way. We are based in Berlin and drive nationwide: long-distance moves, destinations in the locations overview.
