Applying for a parking restriction zone: application, fee, deadlines and signs in Berlin
The guide
Applying for a parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone) in Berlin is less complicated than many people think: the responsible body is the road traffic authority of the district in which the zone is to be set up – depending on the district, the public order office (Ordnungsamt) or the roads and green spaces office (Straßen- und Grünflächenamt). According to service.berlin.de, an informal application stating the address, date, time and length of the zone is enough. The fee is at least €21 and depends on scope and duration. Lead time is important: processing takes around four weeks. Anyone who only thinks of it two weeks before their private move will often be too late.
The authority only issues the order – it does not supply the signs. They have to be put up separately, usually by a moving company or a traffic safety firm. For wrongly parked cars to be towed away, the signs must be in place at least three full days beforehand – counted in whole days, not hours (BVerwG 3 C 25.16). With a long-distance move, you often need a zone at both addresses – under the rules of the respective city. On request, we apply for the zone for you and put up the signs; the costs are stated in the quote in advance. More on this under Parking restriction zone.

Order the parking restriction zone in good time
Plan the application and signs together with the move
Call us on 01625978461 as soon as your moving date is set. We apply for the parking restriction zone with the responsible authority, put up the signs at least three full days beforehand and document this with photos. In Berlin, allow around four weeks' lead time – the earlier you call, the more likely your preferred date will work out.
Quotes available individually based on workload, scheduling and the desired scope of services.

What we take care of for the parking restriction
Application, signs, proof
We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and, on request, apply for the parking restriction zone for your move with the district's road traffic authority. During the survey we measure how many metres the lorry needs and whether the zone makes more sense in front of the building or around the corner. We put up the signs at least three full days beforehand, photograph them with the date and collect them again after the move. The fee and signs appear as a separate item in the quote, so that the fixed price holds no surprises. For moves to other cities, the local rules apply – destinations can be found under Locations.

How we support you
Six points that often go wrong with the parking restriction zone for a move. If you know them, you will not be double-parked with the lorry on moving day – and you will not have to hope that the space in front of the building happens to be free.
Applied too late
Signs too late
Zone too short
Wrong time
Only one address

Shared load: check parking restrictions anyway
If you have only a few items, a shared load can be cheaper: your furniture travels along with other jobs, especially on long-distance moves. Because a time window rather than a fixed date applies, a parking restriction zone is hard to plan – clarify in advance where the lorry can stop briefly.

Your
move – fully organised
The parking restriction zone is just one point in the timeline. Preparation also includes the right private move, for long distances the planning of a long-distance move, and giving notice on the old flat with a three-month notice period. After moving in, you register with the registration office (Bürgeramt) within two weeks and need the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) for this. We go through the dates with you during the survey.

Frequently asked questions about the parking restriction zone
What is a parking restriction zone and what is it for?
A parking restriction zone is an area marked by traffic signs in which stopping and parking are prohibited for a certain period. During a move, it serves to create enough space for the removal van directly in front of the door, so that loading and unloading can be done quickly and safely.
Without such a temporary no-parking zone, other vehicles may block the way and the move may be delayed unnecessarily. Especially in cramped city centres or on narrow streets, applying in good time is therefore essential for a smooth process.
Step by step: how to apply for the parking restriction zone
Submit the application to the road traffic authority of the district in which the zone is to be set up – in Berlin, depending on the district, the public order office or the roads and green spaces office. An informal application is enough: address with house number, date, time from–to and the length needed, plus your contact details. According to service.berlin.de, processing takes around four weeks, and the fee is at least €21.
The order does not come with signs. These have to be put up – at least three full days before the restriction begins; it is counted in whole days, so 72 hours from midday is not enough. Only then may a vehicle that is still parked there be towed away. On request, we handle the application, signage and photo documentation for you.
