Merging two households

Moving in together
Two households, one moving day: how moving in together works
Starting out together
When two households are merged, duplicate furniture, different furnishing styles and keepsakes come together. We support you from the first inventory to the last box in your shared home. Together we plan which furniture stays, what is sold, given away or disposed of and how the new flat can be divided up sensibly. On request we empty both flats on the same day – which saves a second trip on a private move.
For couples moving in together, we realistically assess the space needed during the free survey. This way you avoid having two washing machines or three sofas standing at the door on moving day. We take care of transport, furniture assembly and the safe handling of valuable items. You can find more about our services under private move – we give you the fixed price after the survey.

Fixed price for two collection addresses
Clearly calculated, with no hidden costs
After surveying both flats, we give you a fixed price that covers both collection points, the total volume and the route. Whether a move within the city or a long-distance move because one of you is moving from another region – we calculate in advance. Call us on 01625978461.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

How we organise moves in together
Sort first, then carry together
Merging two households means more than packing boxes – it is about compromises, organisation and often emotional decisions. We plan the route so that both flats are emptied one after the other and everything arrives together at the new flat. We give you the price as a fixed price after a survey; your household goods are covered by liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB), and additional insurance for valuables is possible on request. On request we dispose of whatever is not coming along at the same time.

Six points for couples
When moving in together, household goods, contracts and habits from two households come together – and not everything fits into the new flat. You should clarify these six points together before the first box is packed.

From
sorting out to unpacking
When merging two households, typical questions come up: which furniture fits into the new flat? How are duplicate items divided up fairly or sold? And which tenancy agreement is terminated when? The deadlines and form of notice are explained in the article Terminating a tenancy agreement. If the flats are in different cities, you will find routes in our overview of long-distance moves.

Frequently asked questions about moving in together
Sensibly reducing duplicate furniture
The first step in merging two households is an honest inventory: which furniture and appliances are duplicated? Instead of taking both sofas, fridges or chests of drawers, a clear list of priorities based on condition, space required and personal value helps. This way you avoid overcrowded rooms and the costs of extra storage space.
During the survey we assess with you what is coming along and what is to be sold, given away or disposed of. This groundwork saves space in the removal van and therefore hard cash on moving day.
Planning the new room layout together
Living well together starts with planning the rooms. Before the removal van arrives, it is worth looking at the floor plan together: where does each piece of furniture go, who gets a study, where is the storage space? If one partner is moving into the other's existing rented flat, clarify the landlord's permission beforehand.
Especially when two furnishing styles meet, a willingness to compromise is called for. With a clear structure and open discussion, your fresh start together will be much more relaxed.
