The municipality of Brig-Glis consists of Brig, Glis with the hamlet of Gamsen, and Brigerbad, and offers a range of residential locations. Brig old town with Stockalper Palace has historic charm and short distances to the station, but narrow lanes and little parking space. Glis is quieter and more residential. Above the town lie the neighbouring municipalities of Termen and Ried-Brig.
Brigerbad on the Rhône is known for its thermal baths and is more rural. Which location suits you depends on your commute, budget and type of home. For the move, what counts is access, gradient, floor and stairwell – we clarify these during the survey. In winter, passes may be closed, so we fix the route in advance. You will find an overview of places with their own pages under Locations.
Flat hunting, work and everyday life in Brig
We do not give specific rents – they depend heavily on location and condition; compared with Zurich or Geneva, the Upper Valais is considered more moderate. Brig-Glis is the economic centre of the German-speaking Upper Valais; many jobs are in administration, retail, the railway and tourism, and others in neighbouring towns such as Visp. Brig is a railway hub, and main road 9, built as the A9 motorway in sections, runs through the municipality towards the Simplon Pass. The canton of Valais is bilingual – German in the Upper Valais, French in the Lower Valais – and German is spoken in Brig. For leisure there are hiking and ski areas nearby, the thermal baths in Brigerbad and culture at the Zeughaus Kultur or in the Knights' Hall of Stockalper Palace. For a smooth start there is our private move service.
Price overview for every type of home
However big your move is – we have fair prices for every situation. We move a 1-room flat from €344; for 2 rooms the price is €599, for 3 rooms €905 and for 4 rooms €1,309. For houses and villas an individual quote always applies. If you are moving over greater distances, long-distance moves cost from €4.20/km. The first step is always a free survey.
How is the moving price calculated?
The basis is always the volume of your belongings. Then come the distance (from €4.20/km), the floor and whether a lift is available. For a smooth process on narrow streets we recommend a parking restriction zone. We are happy to combine this with furniture assembly or a shared load.

Arrival and customs formalities when moving to Brig-Glis
If you move from Germany to Brig-Glis, there are two authorities to deal with: the municipality and customs. The town asks you to report your arrival within 14 days. Beforehand you should deregister from your previous municipality of residence. As documents the town lists the certificate of origin (Heimatschein, original), the health insurance card or policy of all family members and a copy of the tenancy agreement; the town office will clarify which of these apply to your nationality. Registration is online or at the town office, Alte Simplonstrasse 28 (phone +41 27 922 41 50), open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9.00 to 12.00 and 14.00 to 17.00, Tuesday and Thursday from 9.00 to 13.00.
Swiss customs law applies to your belongings. According to the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZG), moving your place of residence to Switzerland is the most important condition for the duty-free import of removal goods. The items must have been used by you personally for at least six months and must continue to be used by you afterwards.
- On import, you present form 18.44 “Removal goods” to the customs office of entry.
- Customs clearance must take place during the opening hours of the customs offices for commercial goods.
- EU and EFTA nationals prove the change of residence with, for example, an employment contract, tenancy agreement or deregistration certificate.
Questions are answered by the customs information centre on +41 58 467 15 15. More about the process can be found in the long-distance moving guide for Brig and under international move.

On waste disposal: according to the town of Brig-Glis, there is a separation system and a regional recycling centre (Ökohof) run by a private company on behalf of the town. A scan system with weight-based fees applies to refuse containers; you sign up via the “Containerchips” form on the REVO website. The town gives no information on bulky waste on the page, so ask the waste adviser on +41 27 922 42 08.
