Moving to Baden: districts in the Swiss spa town
Neighbourhoods & costs
A move to Baden in the canton of Aargau means more than packing boxes – from customs clearance at the border to the town centre, where driving is generally prohibited. The town includes the old town, the Bäderquartier (spa quarter), districts such as Kappelerhof and Allmend, the villages of Dättwil and Rütihof and, since 2024, Turgi. For your private move we clarify access and parking in advance and give you a fixed price after the survey. That way you can start your new life on the Limmat relaxed.
Anyone moving from Germany to Baden declares their household goods at the border as removal goods (Übersiedlungsgut) – with form 18.44 and an inventory list. We come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive around 821 km to Aargau; how this works is explained under long-distance moves. We are liable for your belongings under § 451e HGB; additional insurance is available for valuable items. With clear time windows we fit the date to the handover of your flat. Phone: 01625978461.

How we plan your move to Baden
Planning according to the city's rules
Baden is home to ABB Switzerland and is a spa town with 21 thermal springs on the Limmat. We come from Berlin-Moabit and have no branch in Switzerland; during the survey we therefore check whether your address lies within the town centre's no-driving zone, whether a parking space needs to be closed off and how long the carrying distance is. We are liable for your belongings under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre. We quote the price as a fixed price. Places with their own pages can be found under Locations.

What to prepare in Baden
Our liability under § 451e HGB is limited to €620 per cubic metre. For high-value furniture or electronics it is therefore worth taking out additional insurance, which you arrange before the move to Baden.
Clarify access
Close off parking
Town office within 14 days
Have documents ready
Household and bulky waste
Keep customs in mind
Save with a part load
For smaller loads a shared load towards Switzerland can be cheaper, because your household goods travel with other consignments. Delivery takes place within a time window rather than on a fixed date; you still need your own inventory list for customs.

Your
move, our craft
Moving to Baden involves a few organisational points: registration at the town office, the car and, for newcomers from abroad, the residence permit. The tenancy agreement with deposit and the handover of your old flat should also be planned early. For moving day we clarify with you whether an access permit or a parking closure is needed in your district. That way you keep track of your private move.

Frequently asked questions about moving to Baden
The districts of Baden at a glance
Baden is divided into districts with very different characters: the old town with its lanes lies below the Stein castle ruins, and the Bäderquartier sits on the bend of the Limmat around the thermal springs. Around the station lies the modern centre; Kappelerhof, Allmend, Meierhof, Münzlishausen and Brunnmatt are residential districts with their own schools.
Somewhat further out are Dättwil with Segelhof and Rütihof, an exclave that does not border the rest of the town directly. Since 1 January 2024 Turgi has also been part of the town. Each district has its own access routes; we tailor the moving plan to them.
Housing market and employers in Baden
The housing market in Baden is in demand: the town of around 24,000 inhabitants lies between Zurich and the Aargau Mittelland, has an InterRegio stop and, in ABB Switzerland, a major employer with research and production here. Central locations near the old town and the station are particularly sought after; in the outer districts the choice is often greater.
Because of the demand it is worth starting your flat search early, ideally alongside planning your long-distance move to Switzerland. We fit the moving date to your flat handover.

Moves from Berlin – including to Baden AG
We plan moves from Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21), including to Switzerland. Places with their own pages are shown in the locations overview; the route, customs and journey time to Baden are described in the Baden long-distance moving guide.
Moving from Berlin to Baden AG: customs, form 18.44 and removal goods
This refers to Baden in the canton of Aargau, not Baden-Baden and not Baden-Württemberg. Switzerland is not part of the EU, so a customs procedure applies to your household goods. According to the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZG), removal goods (Übersiedlungsgut) of people moving in are duty-free if you move your main residence to Switzerland. You must have used the items yourself for at least six months beforehand and continue to use them in Switzerland.
On import you present form 18.44 to the customs office, together with a list of your belongings. Furniture, valuables and larger appliances are listed individually. EU and EFTA nationals prove the move with documents such as an employment contract, tenancy agreement or deregistration certificate. Clearance takes place during the opening hours of the customs offices for commercial goods; as standard, the BAZG gives Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 11:30 and 13:30 to 17:00. According to the BAZG, only a few customs offices offer advance registration of the dossier.
- Declare later shipments on a separate list at the first import
- Vehicles must be declared on import; Swiss registration follows via the cantonal office
- according to the BAZG, a heavy vehicle charge applies to heavy vehicles
Details on the process can be found in our guides Moving to Switzerland: customs and formalities and costs and planning. Our service can be found under international move.
Baden AG: old town, access permits and parking for the removal van
Baden has a town centre with an old town where access is regulated. The town of Baden's "Traffic permits" (Bewilligungen Verkehr) page lists several permits. These include access permits for the town centre, for which an online application is available, and closing off public parking spaces. The page also refers to documents on the access routes in the old town and to a fee sheet from the municipal police. How long processing takes and what each permit costs cannot be read there; we therefore clarify this with the town early, before the date is fixed.
Three questions matter for your move:
- Is the address in an area where an access permit is required?
- Does a parking space need to be closed off in front of the house so the van can stand close enough?
- How far is it from the front door to the van, and are there stairs or a lift?
During the survey we note the answers and plan staff and time windows accordingly. If you want to get to know everyday life in the town, you will find tips in the guide for newcomers to Baden. On how a long route works, also read the long-distance moving guide for Baden.
