Den Bosch: Binnenstad Rosmalen and Maaspoort compared

’s-Hertogenbosch guide
Den Bosch: old town, new neighbourhoods and villages on the Maas
Areas, housing, daily life
A move to ’s-Hertogenbosch takes you to a city with a dense old town and new neighbourhoods: the Binnenstad (city centre) around St John's Cathedral is tightly built up, the modern Paleiskwartier has grown up around the station, and the municipality also includes villages such as Rosmalen, Empel and Engelen. For moving day this means: in the Binnenstad, parking rules and access matter; in the outer districts it is more about the floor and the carrying distance. We take care of planning, packing, transport and assembly. Thanks to a fixed price after a survey, you know early on what the move will cost.
We come from Berlin and drive nationwide and abroad. The route, zone and schedule are described in our long-distance moving guide; this one is about life in the city. We also organise storage, furniture assembly and coordination of the stopping place with the municipality. Your belongings are covered under the German Commercial Code (HGB), and additional insurance is available. You can find more about our services for private households under Home move.

What we clarify before moving day in Den Bosch
Parking, zone, date
Parking space is scarce in the Binnenstad of ’s-Hertogenbosch, and the municipality does not describe a separate application for keeping space free for the removal van. So we clarify in advance with you and the municipality where the van can stop and which vehicle meets the zero-emission zone (Zero-Emissiezone) requirements. Planning, packing, transport and assembly come from a single source; your belongings are covered under the HGB. Frequently asked questions about living in ’s-Hertogenbosch
The neighbourhoods of ’s-Hertogenbosch at a glance
The Binnenstad lies on a small sand ridge once surrounded by marshland; around St John's Cathedral, old buildings stand tightly packed, and the partly underground Binnen-Dieze can be explored by boat. The Muntel neighbourhood was created when building outside the ramparts was permitted after 1874. Near the station, the modern Paleiskwartier grew up around the turn of the millennium.
In the north lies Maaspoort with the well-known Bolwoningen, a housing estate of spherical houses. The municipality also includes villages and localities such as Rosmalen, Empel, Engelen, Hintham and Bokhoven. In Rosmalen, a newer residential area has been built at De Groote Wielen. Empel and Bokhoven lie on the Maas and have a village character; Empel is one of the oldest settled places in the municipality. For your move this means: in the Binnenstad, the parking permit, the visitor scheme and narrow access routes matter; in the villages it is more about long distances and detached houses with gardens. Choose your neighbourhood according to your commute, school and everyday life.
Working, studying and living in Den Bosch
Den Bosch is the seat of the provincial government and of a court; the service sector dominates. Employers in the city include a large Heineken brewery, the energy supplier Essent with its headquarters, and the Jeroen Bosch Ziekenhuis (hospital). Students will find Avans Hogeschool (university of applied sciences) and JADS (Jheronimus Academy of Data Science).
The station is a hub with trains to Amsterdam via Utrecht, to Maastricht via Eindhoven, and to Tilburg, Breda and Nijmegen. The A2 connects the city with Utrecht and Eindhoven. Carnival, the Bossche Bol pastry and the twin town of Trier are part of everyday life. As in many Dutch cities, the housing market is considered tight; we deliberately do not give reliable rent figures here. Search early, compare neighbourhoods and service charges, and plan your registration with the municipality straight after moving in.

How the moving price is calculated
The basis is always the volume of your belongings. Added to this are the distance (from €3.95/km), the floor and whether a lift is available. For a smooth process on narrow streets we clarify in advance with the municipality where the van can stop. We are happy to combine this with furniture assembly or a part load.

Parking in the Binnenstad of ’s-Hertogenbosch: residents' permits and the moving phase
For moving day itself, the municipality of ’s-Hertogenbosch does not describe a separate application for keeping parking space free for a removal van on its “Verhuizen” and “Parkeervergunning” pages. So clarify this in good time by phone with the municipality: (073) 615 51 55.
What is regulated, however, is parking for residents of the Binnenstad. According to the municipality:
- The 24-hour permit costs 97.63 euros per quarter. The prerequisite is registration in the population register (BRP) at an address in the Binnenstad without a private parking space. There is a waiting list; the permit entitles you to park in residents' spaces in the sector, not in a fixed space.
- The evening permit costs 43.09 euros per quarter and is valid Monday to Saturday from 5 pm to 10 am and all day on Sundays and public holidays. The Parade square and the multi-storey car parks are excluded.
- Permits are not transferable and end as soon as you have registered at the new address.
For the moving phase there is also the “bezoekersregeling voor verhuizing”, a visitor parking scheme for the city centre and residential neighbourhoods. You apply for it via the digital Parkloket no earlier than one month before the moving date and must state the new address and the reference number of your change-of-address notification. Only one scheme is possible per address. This is not a reservation for the lorry; information on parking restrictions in Germany can be found under Parking restriction zone.
Reporting your move to ’s-Hertogenbosch: deadlines, appointments and waste
According to the municipality of ’s-Hertogenbosch, you report a move within the Netherlands “within 5 days after your moving date or at most 28 days before the move”. This can be done digitally via the “Verhuizing doorgeven” page. Alternatively, you can report by post, in which case you enclose a copy of your proof of identity. For moves from abroad, the municipality refers to a separate page; you book appointments online (“Maak een afspraak”) or call the municipality on (073) 615 51 55.
On its page for new residents, the municipality lists further topics to deal with after the move: parking permit, waste, waste charge, municipal taxes and dog tax. The Afvalstoffendienst ’s-Hertogenbosch is responsible for refuse collection and recycling centres (“milieustraten”); its website and app show collection dates, and you can reach it with questions on (073) 615 65 00. The municipality gives no specific information on bulky waste on its waste page.
After registering, keep the confirmation and registration details, as parking permits and visitor schemes change with the new address. What everyday life in the city feels like is described in the guide for newcomers to ’s-Hertogenbosch, and the route from Germany in the long-distance moving guide.
