Moving out of a shared flat with several flatmates: splitting furniture dates and costs

Moving out together
One shared flat, several addresses, one moving day
Split fairly
When a shared flat breaks up or several flatmates move out at the same time, one move quickly becomes a puzzle: who takes the washing machine, who gets the sofa, and where does the van go first? If you record this in a list beforehand, you save discussions and time on moving day. For a shared-flat move with several destinations, we plan the route so that all addresses can be reached in one day – we give you the fixed price after the survey.
The tenancy agreement also matters: if all flatmates are named in it, it can usually only be terminated jointly, and the deposit is settled jointly too. If one person holds the main tenancy and the others are subtenants, different notice periods apply. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and handle the transport – information on our student move.

One quote for the whole shared flat
One survey, one fixed price, one date
Enquire together as a shared flat and tell us who is taking which furniture and where. Call us on 01625978461: we survey the flat once, then give you a fixed price – feel free to ask how the price is split between the rooms.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

How we plan a shared-flat move with several destinations
Order instead of chaos
On a shared-flat move with several destinations, the loading order is decisive: whatever goes in last comes out first. That is why, at the survey, we clarify who is moving where, mark the furniture by person and load so that each address can be served without rearranging. For transport damage, we are liable under the HGB (§ 451e: €620 per m³). We are based in Berlin-Moabit and rated 5.0 on Google from 119 reviews.

What a shared flat should clarify before the move
Most arguments during a shared-flat move are not about carrying but about money and ownership. It is best to put these six agreements in writing before the first box is packed.
Who owns what
Who gives notice and how
Splitting the deposit
One moving day
Sharing costs
Broadcasting fee
Part load for the flatmate who moves later
Not all flatmates always move out on the same day. If you only have one room with little furniture and are moving later or to another city, you can send your things as a part load: they travel along with other jobs going in the same direction. That is often cheaper than a transport of your own.

A
shared-flat move without arguments
A shared-flat move with several flatmates needs agreements above all: who takes what, who gives notice and how, and how are the deposit and moving costs split? Once that is settled, moving day itself is just a question of order. You can read more about moving out of a shared flat in the article Getting your deposit back.

Frequently asked questions about moving out of a shared flat
Organising a shared-flat move cleverly
A shared-flat move requires special coordination, as several people are moving out or in at the same time. Agree early with your flatmates who is taking which furniture and which shared items, such as kitchen appliances, will stay. A clear list helps to avoid misunderstandings and saves valuable time on moving day.
Also take the opportunity to book a removal van or a professional team together – that considerably reduces the costs for everyone involved. With our private move service, you can even have several flats coordinated in one day.
Sharing costs fairly in a shared flat
If several flatmates move at the same time, costs can be shared: travel, parking restriction and working time are only incurred once. It is fair to split shared items equally and to break down the transport by quantity and destination. Have this shown separately in the quote, and there will be no discussion later.
Jointly bought furniture that nobody is taking is best sold before the move, with the proceeds shared – that also reduces the volume. Used boxes from classified ads or from friends save money. If someone with few household goods is moving to another city, a part load is often cheaper; find out more under long-distance moves.
Starting prices by flat size
How much will my move cost? We are happy to answer this question: we move 1-room flats from €369, 2-room flats from €605, 3-room flats from €889 and 4-room flats from €1,309. For houses and villas, the price depends heavily on the individual circumstances, which is why we prepare an individual quote here. Long-distance moves are no problem either – for these we charge from €4.15 per kilometre. The easiest way to clarify all the details is a free survey.
What determines the price for a shared flat
The moving price depends primarily on the volume and the distance, which we calculate at €4.15/km. Further factors are the floor, a possible lift and a parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone). Furniture assembly and a part load can also be booked as options.
