Packing alongside your job: a packing plan for the evenings before the move

Guide for working people · Part 11
Boxes after work: in stages instead of at the last minute
Packing in stages
If you work full time, you rarely have more than an hour or two of energy left in the evening. Your packing plan should be tailored to exactly that: small, clearly defined tasks that can be finished in one evening. Start with what you do not need in everyday life – cellar, bookshelf, seasonal clothing – and work your way towards the kitchen and bathroom. That way the flat stays liveable until the very end.
If the evenings are not enough, you can hand over individual rooms, such as the kitchen with its crockery and glasses. For a smooth private move we give you the fixed price after the survey – including a packing service for individual rooms. That way you know early on how many evenings you need to plan yourself and which rooms we take over. Your belongings are covered under the German Commercial Code (HGB), and additional insurance is available on request.

Fixed price after a survey, also for partial packing
You pack most things yourself and only need help with the kitchen or the bookshelf? Call us on 01625978461. After the survey you receive a fixed price for your move – with or without a packing service.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

What we can take off your hands
You pack, we carry
Many working people pack themselves and leave the carrying, transport and assembly to us – that is often the best split. If time gets tight, we take over individual rooms on request, such as the kitchen. We set the moving date after the survey, so that your packing plan has a fixed goal. Your belongings are covered under the HGB. We have one location in Berlin-Moabit; destinations with their own page can be found under our locations.

Packing
without a packing marathon
The eleventh part of our series Moving for working people is about packing after work: which rooms come first, how many boxes one evening can manage and what stays unpacked until moving day. If you start four weeks ahead, short evenings are enough. If a long-distance move is coming up, boxes should be packed particularly firmly and labelled, because the journey takes longer.

Frequently asked questions on packing alongside your job
One room per evening: drawing up the packing plan
First count the evenings until moving day and subtract those on which you will definitely have no energy – team evenings, sport, long meetings. Spread the rooms over the remaining ones: cellar and storeroom first, then books, seasonal clothing and decorations, later the children's room or study. A packing plan on paper or in your calendar shows whether you are on schedule.
The key is to finish every evening: better one shelf completely than three halfway. Label each box straight away with the room and contents. You will find labelling tips in the article Labelling moving boxes with a colour system.
The final week: what stays until the end
Things get tight in the final week, so by then only what you need every day should be left: part of the kitchen, the bathroom, bedding, work clothes and your workspace. Keep one place setting per person and a pan; pack the rest of the kitchen two to three evenings before, or have it packed.
The evening before, everything for the first night and the first working day goes into a box that you take with you: laptop, chargers, ID, medication, bedding. That way you can carry on working straight after the move.
