Long-distance move

Long-distance moves of 500 km or more – how to master the long route

Driving time, breaks, loading time

Unsere Firma Over 500 km, driving and rest times, tolls and driving bans determine whether the move arrives in one day or two.

A long-distance move of 500 kilometres or more makes different demands from a local change of flat. It requires precise route planning, sufficient driver capacity and a team that handles long distances safely and on schedule. At Beste Umzug Unternehmen we plan every long-distance move individually so that your furniture arrives on time and undamaged. Whether within Germany or across Europe – we build in driving times, breaks and driving bans from the outset.

Our process starts with a free survey, followed by a fixed-price quote in which driving time, breaks and staff are already included. On moving day we take care of packing, loading, transport and assembly at the destination. Your goods are covered under the HGB (up to €620 per m³), and additional insurance is available on request. More about our range of services can be found under private move.

REALISTICALLY PLANNED

How we plan routes of 500 km or more

With breaks, not against them

Over 500 kilometres, regulations decide the schedule: lorry drivers must take a 45-minute break after 4.5 hours of driving and may as a rule drive no more than 9 hours a day. We factor these times in advance together with loading and unloading and tell you openly whether delivery will arrive the same day or the following day. The fixed price after a survey is set beforehand, and your goods are covered under the HGB. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive nationwide and to other European countries.

Route planning

We plan the route with rest stops and check driving bans: lorries over 7.5 t may not drive on Sundays and public holidays until 10 pm – which pushes back some delivery dates.

Two-day schedule

Loading on the first day, driving with the required breaks, unloading on the second day: for large flats over 500 km or more, this is often the more realistic schedule.

Transport-proof packing

On long motorway routes, vibrations act for hours. We pad glass, screens and furniture edges so that they survive the entire journey undamaged.

Furniture assembly at the destination

At the destination we reassemble beds and wardrobes so that after the long route you do not have to spend the first night on boxes.
OPENLY CALCULATED

What counts on long routes

On long routes, customers above all want to know one thing: when will my household goods arrive, and what will it cost? That is why we state the delivery day and the fixed price in advance and record both in writing.

01

Honest driving time

For a lorry, 500 km means around six to seven hours of pure driving time plus a break. We plan with this time and not with the car driving time from the satnav.
02

Breaks included

The compulsory break after 4.5 hours of driving is part of our plan. That way your goods arrive safely – with a rested driver.
03

Delivery day in writing

Collection and delivery are stated in the quote. If anything changes due to traffic jams or a driving ban, we get in touch in good time and agree the new date with you.
04

Parking restriction at both ends

At both the starting point and the destination, the lorry needs space in front of the door. We clarify which authority is responsible at the destination and how much lead time the application needs.
05

Toll in the quote

Since July 2024 the lorry toll has applied from 3.5 t. With us it is stated openly in the quote, not only on the invoice.
06

Arriving without chaos

At the destination we carry every box into the right room and assemble the furniture – so that the long drive is not followed by a long evening.
MONEY-SAVING OPTION FOR LONG ROUTES

Part load over long distances

Share the cargo space, share the route

A part load is the money-saving option for smaller moving volumes over long distances. Your goods travel with other orders on the same route, which lowers the cost per kilometre. Over 500 km you should allow a time window of a few days for this.

THE LONG DRIVE

What
is different from 500 km

Time, rules, packing

With a long-distance move of 500 km or more, numerous factors play a role: driving time, intermediate stops, customs formalities for moves abroad and the right packing for delicate goods. We advise you on all relevant topics so that your move runs smoothly. The choice between a complete move and a part load is also decisive for costs and schedule. Further information on our long-distance moving services can be found under long-distance moves.

Driving and rest times

The EU driving time rules apply to removal lorries: a maximum of 4.5 hours at a stretch, then a 45-minute break, at most 9 hours a day (10 twice a week). For a private move, senior move or student move of 500 km or more, this often means: two days.

Packing for the motorway

Hours of vibration are riskier for glass and electronics than a short trip across town. With a packing service, careful furniture transport and well-filled boxes nothing moves around; single items are also suitable for a small transport.

Tolls and driving bans

Since July 2024, lorries from 3.5 t have been subject to tolls, and over 7.5 t the Sunday and public holiday driving ban applies. This also affects an office move, company move, part load or furniture taxi over long distances.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about moving 500 km or more

Answers on costs, driving times, duration, liability, part loads and moves abroad.
The cost per kilometre starts at around €3.85 and depends on the moving volume, number of floors and additional services. At Beste Umzug Unternehmen you receive a transparent fixed-price quote after a free survey. This way you know the total costs of your long-distance move before signing the contract and avoid hidden extra costs during transport.

Cost per kilometre for a long-distance move

The cost per kilometre for a long-distance move starts at around €3.85 per km and varies depending on the moving volume, floor and additional services such as packing and unpacking. For routes of 500 km or more, a detailed cost estimate is worthwhile in order to assess all factors realistically.

With our fixed-price model you know from the start what total costs to expect – regardless of traffic or weather conditions. This way you avoid nasty surprises in the final bill for your long-distance move.

Part load as a smart money-saving option

For smaller households or single items of furniture, a part load is often cheaper than an exclusive transport. Your goods share the cargo space with other customers on a similar route, which considerably reduces the cost per kilometre.

The only drawback: the delivery time may be somewhat more flexible, as several destinations are served. For price-conscious customers who do not need a fixed delivery date, however, a part load is an excellent choice for long-distance moves of 500 km or more.

Starting prices – and what the route adds

Our prices are fair and transparent. For a 1-room flat we charge from €349, for a 2-room flat from €615. Larger moves, such as a 3-room flat, start from €884, a 4-room flat from €1,299. For a house or villa we will of course prepare an individual quote tailored to your wishes. If you are planning a long-distance move, a price per kilometre from €3.85 applies. Feel free to arrange a free survey to clarify all the details.

Factors that carry weight from 500 km

The decisive factors are above all volume, distance (from €3.85/km), floor, as well as lift and parking restriction zone. Additional services such as furniture assembly increase the total price slightly, whereas a part load can lower it.
