Move with Assembly: Process Costs & Tips

Process & costs
Moving with assembly: from the first screwdriver to the finished wardrobe
How it works
A move with assembly runs in four stages: first we look at the furniture during a survey or by video and note what has to be taken apart – wardrobes, beds, shelving walls, kitchen units. On moving day we dismantle the furniture, collect screws and fittings in labelled bags and mark the parts. After transport, the furniture is reassembled in the new flat according to your layout plan. Legally, dismantling and reassembling furniture is in any case one of a removal company's duties (§ 451a HGB) if it is part of the contract.
What a move with assembly costs depends less on the number of rooms than on the furniture: a bed is taken apart in minutes, while a wall unit with sliding doors or a fitted kitchen takes hours. High floors without a lift, long carrying distances and wall fittings such as wall cupboards or shelves also make it more expensive. After the survey we quote a fixed price in which dismantling, transport and reassembly are listed separately. What we take on for assembly is described on the page move with assembly.

Clarify the process and price in advance
Fixed price after a survey – dismantling, transport and reassembly listed separately
Send us a list or photos of the furniture that needs to be dismantled and reassembled, or arrange a survey. You will then receive a fixed price for your move with assembly that shows which furniture will be taken apart and whether wall fittings are included. Phone: 01625978461.
Quotes available individually based on workload, scheduling and the desired scope of services.

Four stages of a move with assembly
From the survey to reassembly
We are based in Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21) and, for a move with assembly, take care of dismantling, transporting and reassembling your furniture. To keep the day predictable, we decide beforehand which furniture will be taken apart, which travels in one piece and what goes on the wall. We are liable for damage to your belongings under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre of cargo space; for expensive individual items, additional insurance is worthwhile.

What moves the price up or down
With a move with assembly you mainly pay for working time. These six points decide how many hours and movers are needed – and with some of them you can save money yourself with a little preparation.

Only a few pieces of furniture? Consider a shared load
If only a wardrobe and a bed are moving, a shared load can be cheaper than a lorry of your own: your furniture travels on a tour together with other orders. You get a time window instead of a fixed appointment.

Plan,
dismantle, reassemble
This guide explains the process and costs of a move with assembly. How to take individual pieces of furniture apart properly is covered in the article Dismantling and assembling furniture; if you only need assembly without a move, you will find everything under furniture assembly. For destinations outside Berlin there is the overview long-distance moves; it also explains how dismantling and reassembly are spread over time on long routes.

Frequent questions
Process of a move with assembly
It all starts with an inventory: during the survey or from your photos we decide which furniture has to be taken apart because it will not fit through the door or stairwell, and which can be transported in one piece.
On moving day we dismantle the furniture, wrap fronts and glass, mark parts and screws and load everything flat into the lorry. In the new flat everything is assembled according to the layout plan – beds first so that the first night is secured, then wardrobes and shelves. We fix tall wardrobes to the wall with the supplied tip-over protection if the wall allows it.
Tips that save money on dismantling and reassembly
Empty wardrobes and chests of drawers before moving day, take pictures and decorations off the walls and leave only the dismantling itself. Keep assembly instructions or look them up from the manufacturer – that saves time during reassembly. If you handle simple furniture such as bedside tables or chairs yourself, the price for the move with assembly goes down.
For kitchens: the cooker, oven and hob are connected by a qualified electrician, and a gas cooker only by a registered installation company (§ 13 NDAV). Arrange these appointments early so that the kitchen is not left without a cooker for days.

What does the price of your move depend on?
Besides the pure volume of your household goods, it is above all the distance (from €4.15/km) that determines the total cost. Other factors are the floor of the flat and whether there is a lift. For a smooth process a parking restriction zone is also advisable, which we are happy to organise for you – supplemented by a shared load or furniture assembly.
