Moving to Wiener Neustadt: from loading day in Berlin to the citizens' service office

Planning Berlin – Wiener Neustadt
Wiener Neustadt: the move in four stages
Guide
A move to Wiener Neustadt can be planned in four stages: preparation in Berlin with the survey and deregistration, loading day, the drive through the Czech Republic and Vienna, then unloading and registration. No customs duty applies within the EU; what matters are the formalities with the registration authorities. In Berlin you deregister no earlier than one week before and no later than two weeks after moving out. In Wiener Neustadt the registration form (Meldezettel) must be at the citizens' service office (Bürgerservicestelle) within three days of moving in. More about private moves under Private move.
We are based in Berlin-Moabit and drive around 736 km: via the A13 and A17 into the Czech Republic, via Prague and Brno to the border at Drasenhofen, and via Vienna and the Süd Autobahn (A2) to Wiener Neustadt. By lorry, including breaks, we reckon on about 11.5 hours – so with two drivers or an overnight stop. We give you the fixed price after the survey; the route in detail is under Moving Berlin – Wiener Neustadt.

What we take care of when you move to Wiener Neustadt
Transport from Berlin, coordinated dates
We have no branch in Austria; for long-distance moves we drive by lorry from Berlin-Moabit to Wiener Neustadt. On request we take care of packing, dismantling, transport and assembly. You clarify the registration form and the stopping space with the traffic office (Verkehrsamt) yourself, and we schedule the unloading date to match. We are liable for your goods under § 451e of the German Commercial Code (HGB) at €620 per cubic metre; additional insurance is available. You can find places with their own pages under Locations.

Part loads to Lower Austria
For individual pieces of furniture or a small household, a part load (Beiladung) to Wiener Neustadt can be cheaper because your household goods travel together with other consignments. Instead of a fixed date, a delivery window then applies to the long-distance move – plan the handover and registration form accordingly.

Common questions
No customs, but deadlines: paperwork for Austria
As Austria is part of the European Union, your household goods are not subject to customs when moving to Wiener Neustadt. A numbered inventory list still helps with unloading and in case something is missing after transport. The formalities lie with the registration authorities: deregistering in Berlin, and registering in Wiener Neustadt within three days of moving in.
If you stay longer than three months as an EU citizen, you apply for the registration certificate (Anmeldebescheinigung) within four months. With your main residence in Austria, a car with German number plates may generally only be used for one month from the date it is brought in; registration then follows, usually with the standard consumption tax (NoVA). Clarify health and social insurance with your employer or insurer.
736 km via Prague, Brno and Vienna
With around 50,000 inhabitants, Wiener Neustadt is the second-largest city in Lower Austria after St. Pölten and lies about 50 kilometres south of Vienna in the Steinfeld. From Berlin-Moabit the route runs via the A13 and A17 into the Czech Republic, via Prague and Brno to the border at Drasenhofen, then via Vienna, the Südosttangente (A23) and the Süd Autobahn (A2) – around 736 km in total.
By lorry that is about 11.5 hours including breaks. Because a driver may drive no more than nine hours a day, we plan two drivers or an overnight stop; with loading and unloading, that usually means two days. In the Czech Republic and Austria, tolls are payable for vehicles over 3.5 t, which we include in the long-distance move fixed price.
Costs in detail
We offer fair and transparent prices: for a four-room flat we charge from €1,289, for 3 rooms from €889, for 2 rooms from €615 and for 1 room from €354. For houses or villas we always prepare an individual quote. Long distances are no problem either – here from €4.25/km applies for the long-distance move. The best way to clarify all the details is during a free survey.
Moving costs in detail
From the quantity of goods (volume) to the distance (from €4.25/km) and the floor with or without a lift – all of this affects the final price. A parking restriction zone also helps to make moving day efficient. Further services such as furniture assembly or a part load round off the offer.

Wiener Neustadt: registration form, citizens' service office and paperwork after arrival
With a long-distance move from Berlin to Wiener Neustadt, registration is due after arrival. On its registration page, the city of Wiener Neustadt states a deadline of three days after moving in. The responsible office is the citizens' service office on the ground floor of the New Town Hall, Neuklosterplatz 1. According to the city, a prior appointment by phone is mandatory (telephone 0 26 22 / 373-0); appointments can also be booked online via the city's appointment portal.
The city requires these documents:
- Registration form, fully completed and signed in the original, with the signatures of the accommodation provider and the person required to register
- Official photo ID, birth certificate and proof of citizenship
- For foreign nationals, a travel document as well
Registration itself costs nothing. For foreign documents presented for the first time, the city states fees of 42 euros for a passport and 21 euros per sheet for other documents. Registration by a trusted person with their own photo ID and the originals, or by post with originals or certified copies, is also possible.
The customs exemption for removal goods (Übersiedlungsgut) described on zoll.de applies to moves from non-EU countries into the EU; Austria is an EU member state, so a move from Berlin is not covered. More on this in the guide to customs and formalities for Austria.
Route & process: Berlin-Moabit to Wiener Neustadt and permits at the destination
Your goods leave Berlin from Stromstraße 21 in Berlin-Moabit. It is around 736 km to Wiener Neustadt, about 11.5 hours by lorry including breaks; we decide in the quote whether two drivers or an overnight stop is the better fit, based on the loading location and handover date.
At the destination, it pays to look at the street situation early. The municipal traffic office of the city of Wiener Neustadt (New Town Hall, 3rd floor, Neuklosterplatz 1, telephone 0 26 22 / 373-417, email [email protected]) states that non-traffic activities on public roads generally require a permit under the Road Traffic Regulations (StVO). Moves are not named as a separate category on the page; so ask the traffic office whether and how you can reserve a space for the removal van. According to the city, fees are set by official notice; the page does not state an amount.
- Loading in Berlin: report the floor, lift and carrying routes in advance
- Unloading in Wiener Neustadt: clarify access and stopping options with the traffic office
- Interim storage or direct delivery: depending on the handover date of the new flat
