New in Wiener Neustadt: Appointment Registration Form, Parking and Recycling

Arriving in Wiener Neustadt
Wiener Neustadt for Newcomers: First the Appointment, Then the Registration Form
First steps
With around 50,000 inhabitants, Wiener Neustadt is the second-largest city in Lower Austria after St. Pölten and lies about 50 kilometres south of Vienna in the Steinfeld, the southernmost part of the Vienna Basin. If you move here, you should know one particular feature: according to the city, the citizens' service office (Bürgerservicestelle) in the Neues Rathaus (New Town Hall) serves visitors by appointment only. Because the registration form (Meldezettel) must be handed in within three days of moving in, it's best to book the appointment before the move – online around the clock or by phone. After that come the registration certificate, parking in the short-stay zone and disposing of the moving boxes; for nursery and school, ask the city about available places early.
Since 2007 the city has been divided into eight districts: Innere Stadt, Ungarviertel, Gymelsdorfer Vorstadt, Zehnerviertel, Flugfeld, Josefstadt, Civitas Nova and Heideansiedlung. The Civitas Nova is home to the technology and business park and the Arena Nova. Wiener Neustadt is a city of schools and a garrison town: Austria's first university of applied sciences was founded here in 1994, and the Theresian Military Academy is considered the oldest in the world. We deliberately do not give rents – compare current offers; neighbourhoods and costs are described in our guide to moving to Wiener Neustadt.

What we take care of for your start
Transport from Berlin, paperwork on your side
We have no branch in Lower Austria; instead, as a removal company, we drive by lorry from Berlin-Moabit to Wiener Neustadt. On request, we take care of packing, transport and assembly, so that in the first few days you have time for the citizens' service office, the residence authority and the flat handover. Ask the municipal traffic office (Städtisches Verkehrsamt) early whether the lorry needs a permit in front of the building. We are liable for your belongings under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre. The route is described under Moving Berlin – Wiener Neustadt.

Frequently Asked Questions About Moving to Wiener Neustadt
The Eight Districts of Wiener Neustadt
Since 2007 Wiener Neustadt has been divided into eight districts: Innere Stadt, Ungarviertel, Gymelsdorfer Vorstadt, Zehnerviertel, Flugfeld, Josefstadt, Civitas Nova and the Heideansiedlung. The Innere Stadt, with the cathedral and the main square, has pedestrian zones and shops, while the Flugfeld recalls Austria's first official airfield from 1909.
The Civitas Nova is the most recent urban extension, with a business park, schools and the Arena Nova. Shopping and commercial areas are also located in the north and south along the B17, in the east on Stadionstraße and in the west near the Fischapark.
Working, Learning and Commuting
Wiener Neustadt is the main town of the Industrieviertel and a city of schools, shopping and the military. The University of Applied Sciences Wiener Neustadt (Fachhochschule), founded in 1994 as Austria's first university of applied sciences, today has more than 3,500 students. The Theresian Military Academy has been training officers since 1752, the aircraft manufacturer Diamond Aircraft is among the companies based in the Civitas Nova, and MedAustron operates a centre for ion therapy.
For commuters, the main station is important: it is one of Austria's most significant railway hubs, with the Südbahn (Southern Railway), the Pottendorf line and other routes. The city's transport company is part of the Verkehrsverbund Ost-Region (VOR), the eastern region transport association.
Fairly calculated: our prices
Transparency is important to us. That's why we give clear starting prices: 1-room flat from €344, 2-room flat from €609, 3-room flat from €879 and 4-room flat from €1,299. We calculate larger properties such as houses or villas individually. For a long-distance move, a price per kilometre from €4.15/km applies. It's best to clarify everything during a free survey.
What goes into the moving price?
The price takes into account the volume, the distance (from €4.15/km), the floor and whether there is a lift. Any parking restriction zone needed is also factored in. Additional options such as furniture assembly and a shared load are also available.

In Wiener Neustadt too, according to the city, registration must take place within three days of moving in. The citizens' service office on the ground floor of the Neues Rathaus, Neuklosterplatz 1, is responsible. The city points out that visitors there are served by appointment only. Appointments can be arranged online around the clock or booked by phone on 02622 373-0.
Opening hours according to the city: Monday to Friday 8 am to 12 noon; on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays also 1 pm to 4 pm; on Tuesdays also 1 pm to 6 pm.
You need to bring the registration form with the original signatures of the accommodation provider and the person required to register, an official photo ID, your birth certificate and proof of citizenship. Foreign nationals must also present a travel document. A third party with their own photo ID and your original documents can also register on your behalf, or you can send it by post with originals or certified copies.
Costs: according to the city, registration, change of registration and deregistration are free of charge. The city only names a fee for foreign documents presented for the first time: €42.00 for a passport, €21.00 per sheet for other documents. Bring proof of any fees already paid to an Austrian authority.
As a result you receive the “confirmation of registration” (Bestätigung der Meldung), colloquially known as the Meldezettel. Our guide to moving to Wiener Neustadt offers practical guidance on neighbourhoods and costs.
