Long-distance move Berlin – Prague: route process & schedule

Route and process
From Moabit to the Vltava: a schedule for your move to Prague
One day, one route
A move to Prague is a move to another EU country – so no customs duty applies. From our base in Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21) it is 352 road kilometres: via the A113 and the A13 to Dresden, on the A17 to the border and on the D8 to Prague. A lorry needs a good five hours for this including the mandatory break; for a normal flat we manage loading and unloading on the same day or the following day. We plan everything from the survey to assembly in Prague with one team.
After the survey we give you a fixed price that includes distance, tolls and working time; we are liable for your belongings under the German Commercial Code (HGB). Beyond our private move services, we take care of special requests such as piano transport or storage. What matters in Prague is the parking space in front of the building, which is applied for with TSK Praha. You can find further destinations abroad under Long-distance moves; we set the collection date in Berlin according to your wishes – see also Locations.

Call us on 01625978461 and tell us your Berlin address, the destination in Prague, the floors and the large pieces of furniture. From this we plan the vehicle, team and schedule for the 352 km. After the survey you receive a fixed price that includes tolls and driving time.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

How it works to Prague
Four steps to assembly
First we survey your flat in Berlin – on site or by video – and record the volume, floors and special items. You then receive the quote with a fixed price and date. On moving day we pack and load, drive via Dresden and the A17 to Prague and reassemble the furniture in the new flat. We are liable for your belongings under the HGB (§ 451e: €620 per m³); we discuss additional insurance in advance. We clarify the parking space with TSK Praha in good time.

Schedule
for your move to Prague
A move to Czechia involves a few deadlines besides the transport: the parking space with TSK Praha with up to 10 working days' processing, deregistration in Berlin at the earliest seven days before moving out and registration with the foreigners' police after arrival. You should also sort out nursery or school places for the family early on. With a checklist you keep track of the order, while we take care of the moving service.

Questions about the journey
Customs and formalities when moving to Prague
As Czechia is a member of the European Union, many of the traditional customs formalities that would apply to non-EU countries do not apply to a move to Prague. Nevertheless, you should keep a detailed inventory list, especially if you are transporting valuables, vehicles or electronic devices. Because Czechia is part of the EU single market, there is no customs declaration and no import VAT on your household goods – the six-month rule for removal goods applies only to non-EU countries such as Switzerland.
Also important is registering with the foreigners' police if you stay in Prague for longer than 30 days, and deregistering at the Bürgeramt (citizens' office) in Berlin. We recommend copying all vehicle documents, registration certificates and insurance documents before the moving date and keeping them to hand. Our team is happy to advise you in advance on all the documents you need for your long-distance move to another EU country.
Costs and process of a long-distance move to Prague
The cost of a move to Prague depends essentially on the moving volume, any extra services you want such as packing or furniture assembly, and the exact distance between the start and destination. After the survey you receive a fixed price that already includes transport, tolls and working time. A personal consultation helps you assess all the cost factors realistically.
The typical process begins with a free survey, followed by a detailed quote and agreeing dates for packing and collection. On moving day our staff load everything properly, secure the load for the 352 km via Dresden and the A17 and deliver in Prague. Finally, the furniture is assembled in the new flat so that you can settle in straight away.

How we calculate the price of your move to Prague
The basis is the volume and the distance, charged from €4.25/km – it is 352 km from Moabit to Prague. Then there is the floor, the lift and the parking space, which in Prague is applied for with TSK instead of a parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone). For assembly we recommend furniture assembly and a part load.

From Berlin across Germany and abroad
We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and carry out moves across Germany and abroad. You can find destinations with their own page in the locations overview, and long routes under Long-distance moves.
Prague: parking space for the removal van with TSK Praha
In Prague, reserving a space for the removal van goes through the technical roads administration TSK Praha. On its ‘Zábor pro krátkodobé parkování’ page, TSK describes the application for moves. It is submitted online; a PDF application is only possible when handed in personally or via the data box. You must attach a scale site plan of the desired area and, if applicable, a power of attorney and, for legal entities, an extract from the trade or commercial register (not older than three months).
On processing times, TSK states: usually up to 10 working days if no publication on the official notice board is required, otherwise usually up to 25 working days. If the closure lasts longer than 30 days, the intention is published for 15 days on the municipal authority's electronic notice board. The contract for use of the space only takes effect with the decision of the road traffic office, and payment is made before the contract is signed. The page does not state an amount. In Prague 1, a preliminary consent or a confirmed site plan is also required.
After a positive decision, you must have the temporary signs put up yourself; you are free to choose the specialist company. A traffic engineering order (DIO) is also required, which you present together with the contract. The TSK contact centre (Veletržní 1623/24, Praha 7) is open on Mondays and Wednesdays 8–12 and 13–18, on Tuesdays and Thursdays 8–12 and 13–15 and on Fridays 8–12. General information on the route is available in Long-distance move to Czechia.
Prague: registering with the foreigners' police and deregistering in Berlin
After arrival you should register your stay in Czechia properly. For a stay of more than 30 days, the information portal ipc.gov.cz gives a registration deadline of 30 working days from entry at the responsible department of the foreigners' police. You need to bring your travel document and the registration form available there. If your stay has already been registered through accommodation such as a hotel, there is no need to register.
At EU level: in the first three months no residence document can be required; after that, member states may require registration. In Czechia the certificate is voluntary for EU citizens, whereas reporting a stay of more than 30 days to the foreigners' police is mandatory. According to Your Europe, the certificate must be issued immediately. Anyone who does not register can expect a fine, but expulsion on that ground alone is not permitted. As proof, employees need a certificate of employment and the self-employed proof of their activity.
For booking appointments at the foreigners' police departments, the portal offers its own reservation system; children under 15 are exempt from the registration requirement. In Berlin you deregister in writing at a Bürgeramt when moving away permanently – according to service.berlin.de at the earliest seven days before moving out and at the latest 14 days afterwards; deregistration is free.
