Long-distance move to České Budějovice – route and formalities
Tips and deadlines
A move to České Budějovice, Budweis in German, takes you to the largest city in South Bohemia. Because the Czech Republic is an EU member, your household goods need no customs papers – other points matter instead: the tolls on Czech motorways, the access rules for heavy lorries in the centre and registering your residence if you stay longer than 30 days. We take care of packing, transport and reassembly and plan the route from Berlin – with a fixed delivery date so that you can arrange the key handover in South Bohemia with certainty.
We come from Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21) and drive around 498 km via the A13 to Dresden, via the D8 to Prague and on south to České Budějovice; by lorry that takes about seven and a half hours including a break. We quote the fixed price after the survey, including for the return route to Berlin. More on moving to the Czech Republic: Customs and formalities in the Czech Republic.

Customs and formalities when moving to České Budějovice
As the Czech Republic is an EU member, traditional customs duties do not apply to private removal goods, but certain formalities must still be observed. For motor vehicles, re-registration in the Czech vehicle register is also required.

Special features and costs of a move to České Budějovice
České Budějovice lies in South Bohemia, around 498 km from Berlin via Dresden and Prague – a comparatively short distance for a move abroad. The city is known for its historic old town with narrow lanes, which is why smaller vans or reloading are often needed for the final approach. Housing also differs in part from Germany, for example in flat sizes and standards of fittings.
The cost of a move to České Budějovice depends on volume, distance, floor and additional services such as assembly or storage. With the fixed price after a survey, you know the costs from the outset. Use our contact form or call us directly to receive an individual quote for your long-distance move.
Calculating moving costs – it's that simple
Anyone planning a move naturally wants to know what to expect. As a rule: the more rooms, the greater the effort. For a 1-room flat prices start from €344, for 2 rooms from €615. A 3-room flat costs from €894, a 4-room flat from €1,329. For a house or villa there is no flat-rate pricing – here we prepare an individual quote. For a long-distance move we charge from €3.80 per kilometre. Arrange a free survey now to receive a binding quote.
Moving costs in detail
First comes the distance between the old and new home – a price from €3.80/km applies here. Next come the volume of your household goods and the floor, with or without a lift. A parking restriction zone may also be necessary. For furniture assembly and a part load we prepare a separate quote.

České Budějovice: parking zones, road information and the municipal office
For parking in České Budějovice, the city refers on its page c-budejovice.cz/parkovani to parking for subscribers, residents and visitors. Price lists and tariff zones can be found on parkovanicb.cz; there the city describes three types of traffic sign for the tariff zones. If you are loading in the centre, read the signs on site carefully. The city has a separate price list for caravans and trailers (c-budejovice.cz/cenik-parkovacich-zon), which is relevant if you bring a trailer.
The city does not state any rules specifically for removal vans on these pages, such as parking restrictions on moving day or the use of road space. We therefore recommend asking the municipal office (Magistrát) directly in good time: Magistrát města České Budějovice, nám. Přemysla Otakara II. 1/1, 370 92 České Budějovice, telephone +420 386 801 111, email [email protected]. Briefly describe the destination address, date and vehicle size in English or Czech.
The city lists current road closures under "Doprava ve městě" in its traffic information (c-budejovice.cz/doprava-ve-meste). It is worth checking one or two days before the move, because closed roads can lengthen the approach.
Our article Long-distance move to the Czech Republic: process and tips explains the basics of a cross-border journey. The guide Moving to České Budějovice describes the districts.
České Budějovice: registering your residence, vehicles and advice
The city runs a page on the population register and residence registration (c-budejovice.cz/en/evidence-obyvatel-ohlasovna-pobytu). According to the city, it covers registering and deregistering a permanent residence as well as extracts from the population register. The best way to find out which documents and deadlines apply in your case is to call the municipal office's general number, +420 386 801 111, before the move.
If you are bringing a vehicle, the city has a page on vehicle registration (c-budejovice.cz/en/evidence-motorovych-vozidel). According to the city, it covers number plates, changes to documents, imports and vehicle modifications. Among the municipal charges, the city lists the waste fee (c-budejovice.cz/en/poplatky), which can be paid online via platby.c-budejovice.cz.
Newcomers will find information for foreigners at c-budejovice.cz/en/node/273172. There the city names two free advisory services: the Centre for Supporting the Integration of Foreigners in the South Bohemian Region (social and legal advice, including accompaniment to authorities) and the Diocesan Caritas advice centre for foreigners and migrants. Driving licences, ID cards and travel documents are handled by the city on a separate page (c-budejovice.cz/en/cestovni-doklady-obcanske-ridicske-prukazy). The website is also available in English (c-budejovice.cz/en); the guide to the authority ("Průvodce úřadem") and the overview of departments ("Odbory magistrátu") help you find the right department. Our article Moving to the Czech Republic: customs, formalities and process gives an overview of customs and formalities.
