Long-distance move Berlin – Turnhout: route & duration

Route and process
From Moabit to the Kempen: a schedule for your Turnhout move
Two days, one team
A move to Turnhout takes you to the Belgian Kempen, in the province of Antwerp near the Dutch border. From our base in Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21) it is 687 road kilometres: via the A2 to the Ruhr area, via the A42 and A40 to Venlo, in the Netherlands on the A67 past Eindhoven and on the E34 to Turnhout. With driving and rest periods, that is more than one working day for a driver. Our offer for private moves can be found under Private move.
As Belgium is a member of the EU, there is no customs clearance for your household goods; more important are registration with the city within eight days and the permit for the parking space in front of the building. For the long route we plan an overnight stay or two drivers and, on request, packing, furniture assembly and storage. Our liability for your household goods is governed by the German Commercial Code (HGB); additional insurance is possible. More on long routes under Long-distance moves.

How the journey to Turnhout works
Four steps to assembly
First we survey your flat in Berlin – on site or by video – and record the volume and special items. You then receive the quote with a fixed price and date. On moving day we load, drive via the A2, A40 and A67 to Belgium and reassemble in Turnhout. For lorries over 3.5 t the kilometre charge applies in Flanders; we check the current rate in advance. Our liability for your household goods is governed by the HGB (§ 451e: €620 per m³). The official language in Flanders, and therefore at the city of Turnhout, is Dutch – allow some time for official errands.

Common questions
Formalities and customs when moving to Belgium
As Belgium and Germany are both EU member states, there is no customs clearance for your private household goods when moving to Turnhout. According to German customs, goods for personal use may be taken from EU states free of duty. Your own inventory list is still useful, especially for valuable items such as art or electronics – for insurance and for loading and unloading.
The local formalities matter more than customs: the city of Turnhout requires you to report your new address within eight days of the move, while the federal Ministry of the Interior speaks of eight working days. Burgerzaken (civil affairs) works by appointment only. Anyone living and working permanently in Belgium should also clarify early what happens with health insurance and any car brought along.
Costs and process for the 687 km to Turnhout
The costs of a move to Turnhout are made up of distance, moving volume, number of floors and additional services such as packing or furniture assembly. For an average 3-room household, prices usually range between 1,800 and 3,500 euros, although a part load can often reduce the costs considerably. After the survey you receive a fixed price that includes the route, overnight stay and kilometre charge.
The process begins with a free survey, followed by a detailed quote and scheduling. On moving day our teams take care of packing, loading, transport over 687 km to Turnhout, and unloading and furniture assembly on site. This makes your long-distance move predictable, safe and free of unnecessary delays.

Our moving service offers clear prices: 1-room flats from €369, 2-room flats from €605, 3-room flats from €905 and 4-room flats from €1,324. Larger properties such as a house or a villa always receive an individual quote. For long-distance moves we charge from €4.10/km. For a tailor-made quote we recommend a free survey.
How the price for Turnhout is calculated
The decisive factors are the moving volume, the kilometres driven (from €4.10/km; 687 km from Moabit to Turnhout), the floor and lift, and the parking space, which in Turnhout is approved instead of a German parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone). You can add furniture assembly and a part load.

From Berlin across Germany and to Belgium
We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive throughout Germany and abroad, including to Belgium. Notes on long distances can be found under Long-distance moves, and destinations with their own page in the locations overview.
Turnhout: paperwork, prohibitions and tolls on the way from Berlin
Berlin and Turnhout are both in the EU. The customs page on removal goods (Übersiedlungsgut) describes the exemption from import duties for moves from third countries into the EU, so that procedure is not the benchmark for your route. For goods within the EU, German customs mainly names these points:
- Goods for personal use may be brought from EU states free of duty.
- Medicines, drugs and pyrotechnics are subject to permit requirements or bans in Germany and therefore do not simply belong in a moving box.
- Cash of 10,000 euros or more must be declared if you are asked.
For the lorry itself, a kilometre charge applies in Flanders: according to Viapass, vehicles over 3.5 tonnes pay on roads in the Flemish Region, in Brussels and on the SOFICO roads in Wallonia. Viapass has announced tariff changes, most recently for 1 January 2027; we check which rate applies on your date when preparing the quote.
If you would like to read more about formalities, the guide to customs and formalities in Belgium gives the full overview. It is best to put ID documents, contracts, valuables and medicines in your personal luggage rather than stowing them in the lorry. Tell us the quantity and weight of your household goods when you enquire, so that we can clarify which vehicle class is needed for the journey to Turnhout and whether the charge applies at all.
Turnhout: parking, registration and city contacts
For the removal van in front of the new home in Turnhout: according to the city of Turnhout, anyone occupying public space needs a permit for "inname openbaar domein" (use of public space). The pages on Verhuizen and Parkeren say nothing about deadlines and fees for moves; the city provides information on 014 44 33 11 or at [email protected]. In the centre there are paid parking zones where payment is required from 9 am to 8 pm except on Sundays and public holidays; according to the city, a new parking policy has applied since 1 January 2026.
For registration:
- According to the city of Turnhout, the change of address must be reported within eight days of the move, while the federal Ministry of the Interior speaks of eight working days. So plan the appointment right after moving in.
- The Burgerzaken service works by appointment only (Campus Blairon 200, 2300 Turnhout; [email protected]; 014 44 33 65).
- Anyone of foreign nationality staying longer than three months registers in person; the city quotes a fee of 24.40 euros per person for this (valid 2026).
The city's registration form asks, among other things, about renting or owning, the number of occupants, your usual times for the address check by the neighbourhood police officer and your choice of waste containers; the city asks you to fill it in only after you have actually moved in.
Everything about everyday life after moving in can be found in the guide for newcomers to Turnhout, and the districts are presented in the Turnhout guide.
