Long-Distance Move Berlin – Charleroi: Route Registration, Duration

Destination: Charleroi
Long-distance move to Charleroi: from Moabit to Hainaut
explained in brief
A move to Charleroi takes you via Aachen and Liège into Hainaut, but stays within the EU: there are no customs formalities for your household goods. What matters is registering with the city's Service Population, the language – French in Wallonia – and access to pedestrian zones. You will find our other routes under long-distance moves. We take care of planning, packing, transport and assembly.
We come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive the lorry around 774 km via Aachen and Liège to Charleroi; that takes about 12 hours including breaks – so we use two drivers or an overnight stop. As both countries are in the EU, there are no customs formalities for your household goods. Whether you are moving from Berlin to Charleroi or from Charleroi back to Berlin: we quote the fixed price after a survey. More in the Charleroi moving guide.

Your
move – fully organised
A long-distance move to Belgium involves more than transport: registering with the Service Population, the police visit to check your residence, deregistering in Germany and access to the pedestrian zone all have to fit together. On top of that come around 774 km of driving via Aachen and Liège with statutory driving times. Within the EU there are no customs formalities for household goods; an inventory list still helps. That way your move to Charleroi runs with no idle time.

Frequent questions
Customs and formalities when moving to Belgium
As Belgium is a member of the European Union, there are no customs formalities for private household goods when moving from Germany. An inventory list is still useful; for motor vehicles, carry the registration documents with you. For valuables, an insurance confirmation is advisable.
What matters is registering on time with the City of Charleroi's Service Population and deregistering in Germany (§ 17(2) BMG). A car you bring with you is usually registered in Belgium if you take up permanent residence. Plan these steps in advance so that your move abroad succeeds without bureaucratic hurdles.
Process and costs of your long-distance move to Charleroi
The process starts with a survey, after which we quote you the fixed price. We then take care of packing, transport over around 774 km and, if required, assembly in Charleroi. With about twelve hours on the road by lorry, we usually plan two days.
The cost of a long-distance move to Charleroi depends on the size of the flat, the floor, access and extra services. In the fixed price the services are listed as separate items, so you can see in advance what you are paying for. For smaller households, a shared load can lower the cost.
The price of your move
No matter how big your home is: we have the right rate. 4-room flats move from €1,269, 3-room flats from €905, 2-room flats from €605 and 1-room flats from €339. For houses or villas there are tailor-made quotes. For a long-distance move you pay from €4.10/km. Arrange a free survey now.
How the price of your move is made up
The volume of your furniture and boxes is the basis of every calculation, supplemented by the distance, which is charged at €4.10/km. Whether there is a lift or several floors have to be climbed also affects the price. If you want furniture assembly or a shared load, simply book these extras too.

The locations are the Hôtel de Ville (Place Vauban 14-15), Gilly, Gosselies, Marchienne-au-Pont and Marcinelle. You can reach the Hôtel de Ville switchboard on 071 86 00 00.
- Hours from 5 October 2026: daily 8.00 to 11.30 and 13.00 to 16.00. All offices are closed on Thursday afternoons. On Saturdays only Marcinelle is open, in the morning.

Many procedures can also be done via the city's E-guichet, for example with eID and card reader or with Itsme. According to the city, documents that carry a fee are cheaper online (50 per cent rate). The city's page gives no deadline for the change of address. Cities such as Bruges and Brussels state eight working days after moving in for Belgium; please confirm the deadline with your Maison citoyenne. In Brussels, according to the city, a police officer then checks that you live at the new address.
Opening hours change, especially around the turn of the year. Check the city's page before you visit. Background on housing can be found in Living in Charleroi.
Moving in Charleroi: resident's card, pedestrian zone and use of the street
Inside the ring (Intra-ring), according to the Ville de Charleroi, 60 minutes of parking are free everywhere, except on express spaces with 30 minutes. Parking is free between 17.00 and 9.00 and on Sundays. There are red, green, white and turquoise zones with different maximum durations.
As a resident of a paid zone, you can apply for the Riverain card (resident's card). It is valid for 12 months and is not renewed automatically. In red and green zones the first card is free and the second costs €100 a year. In white and turquoise zones the first two are free and the third costs €100. You need proof of residence no older than 30 days and the registration certificate (volet 1).
In the pedestrian zones, automatic bollards are lowered every day between 4.00 and 10.00. Outside these hours, according to the city, access is arranged via the police (071/210 318) or the Service Études-mobilité.
For a furniture lift or similar equipment on the street there is the form "Demande d'Occupation Privative Temporaire de la Voie Publique". According to the city, it also applies to monte-charges or élévateurs en cas de déménagement (hoists or lifts for a move). It goes by email to [email protected] or by post to the Service Voirie, 21 rue des Bouleaux, 6001 Marcinelle; queries on 071/86.93.28. The page gives no deadline or fee. We could not find a separate procedure for parking restrictions for moves there. Everything else about the process can be found in the Charleroi moving guide.
