Moving to Belgium

Arriving in Belgium: municipality, police visit, e-card

Three regions, three languages

Unsere Firma Moving to Belgium: transport from Berlin, assembly at the destination and a checklist for the municipality, police visit and DIV.

Emigrating to Belgium is customs-free, because both countries are in the EU – your household goods need no papers at the border. Arriving is more involved: the municipality, the residence check by the police and registering your car happen one after another and often take several weeks. Our team plans your long-distance move from the survey to furniture assembly in your new flat, so that you can concentrate on these appointments. Which language the authorities use with you depends on whether you move to Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels or East Belgium.

After the survey we give you a fixed price; we are liable for your belongings under the statutory rules (HGB). Our movers pack your belongings professionally and secure them for the long journey to Belgium, and we reassemble furniture at the destination. You can find our services in detail under private move; further routes from Berlin are listed under long-distance moves. Plan moving day so that you can go to the municipality promptly afterwards.

MAXIMUM CARE

What we take on for your move to Belgium

Transport from Berlin

We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and handle international moves to Belgium – from Antwerp and Ghent to Brussels, Liège or Eupen. We take care of packing, carrying, transport and assembly; you handle the appointments with the municipality and police as well as registering your car yourself, and we tell you in advance what is due when. In Brussels and other cities the lorry usually needs a parking permit from the municipality, which we plan with you in good time. Statutory liability applies to your property during transport; it is best to carry valuables yourself, and additional insurance is available on request.

Packing Service

We label boxes by room and content – practical if you move in first in Belgium and only unpack everything weeks later.

Furniture assembly

Dismantling in Germany, assembly in your new flat in Belgium – beds and wardrobes are standing before the police come for the residence check.

Furniture lift

Narrow, tall townhouses in Brussels or Ghent have steep stairs – large furniture gets into your flat in Belgium by external hoist.

Furniture Transport

Delicate individual items such as display cabinets, mirrors or a piano travel padded and secured to your new home in Belgium.
CLEARLY AGREED

Our moving services at a glance

Estimate the value of your belongings realistically before transport, even though no customs duty applies within the EU: statutory liability is limited. An inventory list makes settlement easier if damage occurs.

NATIONWIDE SERVICE

Save with a part load

Small move, small price

With a shared load you reduce the cost of your move to Belgium, because you share the loading space with other customers. This suits smaller households, single pieces of furniture or situations where you initially live in furnished accommodation in Brussels – with a little flexibility on the delivery day.

EUROPE-WIDE MOVES

Your
move, our craft

Methodical and reliable

When moving to Belgium, the bureaucracy follows a fixed order: registration with the municipality (commune/gemeente), a home visit by the police, entry in the register and finally the electronic EU card. Depending on the municipality, documents such as birth certificates must be translated or presented with an apostille. If you bring a car, you declare it to customs (e705), have the technical inspection (contrôle technique) carried out and apply for registration with the DIV. Our checklist helps you not to forget any step.

Planning safe and relaxed

For your private move or senior move to Belgium, the order is what counts: registration with the municipality, the police home visit, the electronic EU card – only then health insurance and registering the car.

Furniture, boxes, transport routes

With a packing service and careful furniture transport, furniture arrives undamaged even through narrow Brussels townhouses or old staircases in Ghent and Liège.

Costs, timing and special cases

In Brussels, the parking permit for the lorry needs lead time; the route and a possible shared load determine the rest of the costs of your move to Belgium.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about moving to Belgium

Answers about the municipality, Annex 19, police visit, car registration and language.
For a private move from Germany there are no customs formalities, because Belgium and Germany are both EU members. Furniture, boxes and personal belongings cross the border without papers. An inventory list still makes sense, but for insurance purposes. For your car, declaring it to Belgian customs (e705) is a prerequisite for registration.

Customs and formalities when moving to Belgium

As Belgium is a member of the European Union, there are no customs formalities for the household goods on your move from Germany. You therefore do not need an inventory list for customs, but you do for insurance and unpacking – especially with valuable items such as works of art.

What matters is prompt registration with the municipality (commune/gemeente): official guides mention eight working days after arrival. As an EU citizen you apply there for the registration certificate (Annex 19), after which the police check with a home visit whether you really live at the address. Only then is the electronic EU card issued.

What makes Belgium special: languages, regions and everyday life

Belgium is divided by language: in Flanders people speak Dutch, in Wallonia French, Brussels is bilingual, and in East Belgium around Eupen and Sankt Vith German is an official language. This multilingualism determines in which language the municipality and authorities correspond with you.

Taxes and health insurance also work differently from Germany: you take out insurance with a Belgian health insurance fund (mutualité/ziekenfonds). If you clarify this early, you can concentrate on the actual move.

What does your move cost?

The cost of a move depends heavily on the size of the flat. We move a 1-room flat from €339, a 2-room flat from €579, a 3-room flat from €915 and a 4-room flat from €1,309. For houses or villas we prepare an individual quote. For longer distances: long-distance moves from €3.80/km. It is best to arrange a free survey straight away.

What does the moving price depend on?

How much your move costs depends primarily on the volume of your household goods and the distance to be covered, which is charged from €3.80/km. The floor and whether a lift can be used also play a role. If you need a parking restriction zone, this also has an effect. Furniture assembly and a shared load can be booked as options.
