Contracts when moving as a single person: internet electricity, licence fee and post

Singles guide · Part 11
One household, one name on every contract
Sorting out contracts
In a single household, all contracts are in one name – internet, electricity, mobile phone, broadcasting licence fee, insurance. So with a single person's move, nobody else has to think about them. For the internet, your provider must continue the contract at your new home if it offers the tariff there; otherwise you can cancel with one month's notice (§ 60 TKG). You may cancel your electricity contract with six weeks' notice when you change residence (§ 41b EnWG), unless the supplier continues to supply on the same terms.
While you sort out your contracts, we take care of the transport. We quote the fixed price after the survey; for damage we are liable under the German Commercial Code (HGB), and additional insurance for valuable items is available on request. Details of our services can be found under private move. Call us on 01625978461 – we will arrange a survey appointment. This leaves you time for providers and authorities.

The move needs a clear contract too
Fixed price after a survey, services in writing
Book your single person's move with a quote that lists all services in writing. Our fixed price after a survey ensures clarity from the first enquiry to the last box. Contact us by phone for your appointment.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

How we free up time for the formalities
We carry, you make the calls
A move as a single person means that all calls to providers, all forms and all boxes are down to one person. We take the physical part off your hands – packing, carrying, transport and assembly – so that there is time left for changing contracts and dealing with authorities. A checklist of all the places that need the new address helps you keep track. For the transport we are liable under the German Commercial Code (HGB). We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and operate nationwide; destinations with their own page are shown in the locations overview.

Contracts,
deadlines, addresses
Part 11 is about the contracts of a single household: when does the internet contract move with you, when may you cancel electricity, how do you update the broadcasting licence fee, and what does mail forwarding still cover? We give the statutory deadlines and show which places need the new address after moving in. If a long-distance move to another city is coming up, you can find more under long-distance moves.

Frequently asked questions about contracts and moving as a single person
Fewer possessions, less administration
A single person's move is the perfect occasion to declutter consistently. Check every piece of furniture and every item critically: will it really be needed in the new flat? With fewer belongings, you not only save space in the van but also hard cash on a fixed-price move.
Use online platforms or flea markets to sell furniture you no longer need before moving day arrives. This reduces the effort for our team and noticeably speeds up the whole moving process.
Moving solo: keeping contracts and connections under control
Without a partner or flatmate, every contract is down to you. Make a list of all providers – from the internet connection through electricity and mobile phone to insurance and subscriptions – and note the notice period and customer number for each. For the internet, the provider must continue the contract at the new place if it offers the tariff there (§ 60 TKG). More on this in the article Transferring electricity, gas and internet.
The physically demanding tasks such as carrying and transport are handled by the Beste Umzug Unternehmen team; for damage we are liable under the German Commercial Code (HGB). This lets you take care of contracts, meter readings and the finer details in your new flat.
