Van, part load or team – what suits a few pieces of furniture?

Small moves compared

Unsere Firma Drive yourself, have it taken along or have it carried: three options for a single household's small move.

If you are moving alone and own little, you have three options: hire a van and drive it yourself, have your belongings taken along as a part load, or book a team with a lorry. With a class B driving licence you may drive vehicles up to 3.5 t gross vehicle weight – but loading, carrying and securing the load then remain your job. How our team handles a small move, you can read under Private move services.

With a part load, your belongings travel on a planned route; in return, the delivery day is less freely selectable. A date of your own with a team is the quickest, but costs more. Which solution fits depends on volume, route and your flexibility – we clarify that during the survey and then quote a fixed price. On request we take care of packing and furniture assembly. For the transport we are liable under the German Commercial Code (HGB).

FEW BELONGINGS

What a team offers compared with a hire van

Carrying, securing, liability

A hire van is quickly booked – but then you drive, carry and secure the load yourself, and you are responsible for damage to the vehicle or furniture. With our team it is different: we carry, load securely and are liable for transport damage under the HGB. For very small quantities we check whether a part load fits. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and operate nationwide – including when you change jobs and move to a new city. Destinations with their own page can be found under Locations.

Part load

A few pieces of furniture and boxes travel on a planned route – often the cheapest solution for a small move over longer distances.

Your own date

If you need a fixed day, the team comes with its own vehicle. Loading, driving and unloading then happen without waiting time on your preferred date.

Carrying only

Already have a van? Then you can also book just the carrying of the heavy items – ask about our moving help.

Furniture transport

We also transport a single sofa or washing machine without a complete move – padded and secured with furniture transport.
SIX QUESTIONS FOR YOUR DECISION

How to find the right solution

Part load, hire van or team: these six questions help you find the right solution for a small move. The more honestly you assess volume, route and your own strength, the better the choice will fit. During the survey we go through the questions together and tell you honestly when a hire van is enough and when a team is the better solution.

01

How much is there?

A few boxes and a bed often fit into part of the cargo space. A full two-room household is more likely to need a vehicle of its own.
02

How far is it?

Within the city, a date of your own is quickly done. Over long distances, the part load plays out its price advantage most strongly.
03

Who carries?

With a hire van you carry yourself or organise helpers. Without friends nearby, that is the biggest drawback of doing it yourself.
04

Which licence?

With class B you may drive vehicles up to 3.5 t gross vehicle weight. Larger lorries require a different driving licence.
05

How flexible are you?

A part load depends on the route. If you have to move in on a fixed day, plan a date of your own or a buffer.
06

Who is liable?

With us, liability under the HGB applies. With a self-driven hire van, you bear the risk of damage to furniture and vehicle.
FOR SMALL LOADS

Part load: how it works

Free cargo space, shared costs
A part load is the middle way between a hire van and a moving date of your own: you do not have to drive and carry yourself, but you share the journey with other jobs. That is why the delivery date is less freely selectable. We quote the price after a survey.

TOPICS IN PART 9

Three
options for a small move

Drive yourself, travel along, have it carried

In Part 9 we compare the three options for a small single move: the hired van, the part load and the team with its own lorry. We show which driving licence is needed, who carries and who is liable with a hire van, and when a part load plays out its price advantage. A long-distance move to another city, for example for a new job, is also covered. More on long distances under Long-distance moves.

Hire van, do it yourself

With class B up to 3.5 t: the hire van is flexible, but carrying, securing and liability are down to you. For a student move with lots of helpers that often works, for a private move on your own less often, because heavy items have to be carried by two people.

Part load on the route

A few pieces of furniture and boxes travel along as a part load. Packing service and careful furniture transport can be booked as extras if you do not want to pack yourself.

Team with its own lorry

Fixed date, no carrying yourself: the team takes care of everything. For single items there is a small removal or furniture taxi – we quote the price after a survey.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about a small move as a single

Part load, hire van, costs, dates and insurance.
The costs of a solo move depend on flat size, distance and additional services. For a typical one-room household, the fixed price is usually well below that of a family flat. A part load can reduce costs further. For an individual quote we recommend a free consultation on 01625978461.

Planning a small move cleverly: how singles save time and money

With the right preparation, a small move as a single can be organised much more efficiently than you might think. Start sorting out furniture and items you will no longer need in the new flat at least three weeks beforehand – this reduces not only the effort but also the costs of transport and boxes. A clear packing list helps you keep track of all tasks and not forget anything.

Also use digital tools to organise change-of-address registrations and contract changes, so you can deal with the authorities in parallel with the move. If you move as a single, you benefit especially from our private move offer, which is flexibly tailored to smaller household sizes and avoids unnecessary costs. When a van of your own is worthwhile, you can read in the article Part load vs. your own van.

Moving day for a small move

Without helping hands on moving day, a clear structure is especially important. The day before, prepare an emergency bag with important documents, charging cables and toiletries, so that the first evening in the new flat goes smoothly. Mark all boxes clearly by room so that our team can put them straight in the right place.

For a long-distance move, it is also advisable to apply early for a parking restriction zone at the new address and to coordinate arrival times with our team. You will find further information on moves between regions under Long-distance moves, where we also handle longer routes reliably and at a fixed price.

Price factors for a small move

The price of your move depends above all on the volume of your household and the distance between the two addresses – from €3.90/km, we calculate transparently. The floor, whether there is a lift and any parking restriction zone needed also affect the costs. Additional services such as furniture assembly or a part load can change the price individually.
