Planning a Student Move: Step by Step

Student moves
Student move in six stages: what is due when
A schedule to take with you
A student move can be planned in six stages: sort out tenancy agreements, fix the date, get materials, pack, move and then deal with the formalities. Each stage has its own timing – giving notice on the old flat comes months beforehand, registration only after moving in. If you know the order, you do not have to do everything at once and you avoid the move slipping into the middle of exam season or onto the last day before the start of semester. Below you will find the stages with their timing and the most important deadlines.
Three deadlines determine the schedule: with a standard tenancy agreement, tenants have a notice period of three months. The deposit for the new flat may be at most three months' rent and can be paid in three instalments. And after moving in, you have two weeks to register. Whether just transport or a complete moving team – you decide the scope yourself. More about our services for a whole household can be found under private move.

Stage two: date and fixed price
After the inventory check
As soon as the start of your tenancy is fixed, it is time for the moving date. Call 01625978461 or send photos: after the inventory check you get a fixed price for your student move. For damage we are liable under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre.
Quotes available individually based on workload, scheduling and the desired scope of services.

Which stage we take over
Moving day itself
We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and, in a student move, mainly take over stage five: carrying, loading, transport and, on request, dismantling and reassembling the furniture. Packing and the parking restriction zone can be added on request. You decide the scope – from transport only to a complete move. We give you the price as a fixed price after the inventory check. For questions about date and scope, you can reach us on 01625978461.

Stage five: transport
Stage five: assembly

The six stages at a glance
This is how a student move spreads over the weeks before and after moving day. The times are guidelines; if the tenancy starts soon, the stages move closer together.
1. Sort out contracts
2. Fix the date
3. Materials and contracts
4. Packing
5. Moving day
6. Afterwards
Plan stage two with a shared load
If the student move goes to another city with few pieces of furniture, the question of a shared load belongs in stage two. Your belongings travel together with other consignments on the same route; the delivery date needs a few days of flexibility.

What
matters besides the schedule
Besides the schedule, route and scope determine the planning. If you are moving to another city for your studies, you will find routes from Berlin under long-distance moves. Extra services such as furniture assembly or a parking restriction zone can be booked in stage two. Which deadlines apply after moving in and how to register is explained in the article re-registration after the move: deadlines.

Questions about planning
How it works in practice
It starts with a short inventory check: how much furniture, how many boxes and bulky items are moving, from which floor, with or without a lift? This produces a schedule based on the start of your tenancy and the start of semester.
On moving day we take care of loading, transport and unloading at the new address, and furniture assembly on request. Meanwhile you take care of the keys and the handover report.
Costs and saving tips in the schedule
The costs depend on the moving volume, distance and extra services; after the inventory check there is a fixed price. Guide prices by number of rooms are in the overview below.
Tip: sorting things out rigorously in stage three saves boxes and loading space. A date outside the start of semester and the end of the month makes choosing a date easier. If you pack yourself, you only pay for carrying and transport.
Plan costs, move stress-free
So that you can plan your move in a relaxed way, here are the key figures: 1-room flat from €354, 2-room flat from €615, 3-room flat from €905, 4-room flat from €1,344. For a house or villa you receive an individual quote; for long-distance moves we charge from €3.90/km. The first step is always a free survey.
Briefly explained: price factors in the move
Volume, distance (from €3.90/km), floor and lift largely determine the price. A parking restriction zone may also become necessary. Additional services such as furniture assembly or a shared load round off the offer.
