What we clarify before moving day in Zielona Góra
Street space, parking zone, date
If you occupy the carriageway or pavement in Zielona Góra beyond normal stopping, you may need a permit from the road administrator; a paid parking zone applies in the centre. Frequently asked questions about living in Zielona Góra
From the centre to the villages of Nowe Miasto
The centre of Zielona Góra, Śródmieście, has an old town with a town hall and many cafés; this is also where the Winobranie parades through the streets in September. As early as 1961, Jędrzychów (Heinersdorf) and Chynów (Kühnau) were incorporated, followed in 1986 by Raculka. One landmark is the Palmiarnia, a palm house on a vineyard hill near the centre.
Since 1 January 2015 the former rural municipality has been part of the city: its 17 villages form the Nowe Miasto district, including Ochla, Przylep, Stary Kisielin, Drzonków and Racula. As a result, the area grew from around 58 to 278 km². In the villages life is rural, with longer distances to the centre – during the survey we clarify access and the loading route.
University, wine-growing and daily life in Zielona Góra
We deliberately do not give reliable current rent figures here; compare offers on the Polish portals and, if in doubt, have contracts translated. The University of Zielona Góra was formed in 2001 from the technical university and the teacher training college and has around 18,000 students. Well-known industrial companies in the city include Zastal and Lumel.
The main station lies on the Wrocław–Szczecin line and has connections to Warsaw, Poznań, Guben and Frankfurt (Oder). The S3 expressway runs east of the city, and the regional airport at Babimost is 34 km away. Our team sets your moving date to suit the handover of your new flat.

Zielona Góra: road administrator, permit and parking zone on moving day
In Zielona Góra, responsibility for municipal roads lies with the Departament Zarządzania Drogami (road management department) of the city office, Urząd Miasta, ul. Podgórna 22, 65-213 Zielona Góra, phone 68 45 64 100. This department includes the Biuro Zarządzania Pasem Drogowym, among whose procedures the city portal lists the “Zezwolenia na zajęcie pasa drogowego”, i.e. permits for using street space. Whether your move requires an application depends on whether the carriageway or pavement is occupied beyond normal stopping. Ask the city office about this in advance.
If your destination address is on a voivodeship road, the Zarząd Dróg Wojewódzkich in Zielona Góra is the contact. Its application forms mention a site plan at 1:1,000 or 1:500, an approved traffic management plan if traffic is affected, and a stamp duty of 17 złoty for powers of attorney. According to the ZDW, the application alone does not yet entitle you to use the space.
The Strefa Płatnego Parkowania is managed by the city’s road management. The city names the administration at ul. Gen. Jarosława Dąbrowskiego 41 (phone 68 454 46 64, [email protected]). According to the city, since the beginning of 2025 you can also pay via ePARK and skyCash, in addition to moBilet.
You will find more about the route in the guide Long-distance move to Poland and under International move.
Winobranie, incorporated villages and registration in Zielona Góra
Zielona Góra is known for its Winobranie wine festival, which the festival website calls the “largest wine festival in Poland”. The reports on the festival website give the period 11 to 13 September for 2026, with a parade through the city’s streets. So if possible, do not schedule your moving date for a festival weekend like this. The festival website does not mention specific road closures, so ask the city about them.
According to the city portal, the city includes numerous former villages listed as sołectwa (village units), among them Barcikowice, Drzonków, Jany, Jarogniewice, Jeleniów, Kiełpin, Krępa, Łężyca, Ługowo, Nowy Kisielin, Ochla, Przylep, Racula, Stary Kisielin, Sucha, Zatonie and Zawada. Access and loading route differ depending on the address, which is why we clarify them during the survey.
After moving in, register your residence at the municipal office. According to gov.pl, EU and EFTA citizens must do this no later than the 30th day after moving in, and citizens of other countries by the fourth day. Registration is free of charge. You should bring the registration form, a valid ID and proof of your right to live there, for example the tenancy agreement. As a tenant, you also have the owner confirm on the form that you live there.
