Frequently asked questions about living in St. Pölten
City centre, Spratzern, Viehofen: the districts of St. Pölten
The heart of St. Pölten is the city centre around Rathausplatz and Domplatz; the old town grew out of the monastery of St. Hippolytus and a neighbouring settlement. A fee-paying short-stay parking zone applies here, and parts are a pedestrian zone. Larger localities are Spratzern with around 7,000 inhabitants and a woodland estate, Viehofen with a good 4,800 inhabitants, Viehofen Castle and the nearby Viehofen lakes, and Pottenbrunn with its castle and the Geberit plant.
Then there are Stattersdorf, Ratzersdorf an der Traisen, Harland, St. Georgen am Steinfelde, Ober- and Unterwagram, and Ober- and Unterradlberg. Since 2021 the city's division no longer follows the former eleven districts but is based on streets. The state government and administration work in the Landhaus quarter. Which location suits you depends on your commute and type of home – we check access and the parking spot for each address individually, as well as the route for our home move.
