Moving to Lublin: costs process & districts

From Berlin to eastern Poland
Moving to Lublin: university city east of the Vistula
Guide
Lublin is the capital of the voivodeship of the same name, lies around 160 km south-east of Warsaw and, with about 340,000 inhabitants, is the largest Polish city east of the Vistula. The Union of Lublin between Poland and Lithuania was concluded here in 1569; the old town with its castle and Renaissance houses recalls it. Lublin is home to five universities, including UMCS and the Catholic University KUL. As Poland is part of the EU, there is no customs duty on your household goods – what mainly needs clarifying is access, registration and the date. Whether you are moving for study, a job or to be near family, you will find very different areas between the old town, the centre and the residential districts on the outskirts.
With our home move we take care of packing, transport and assembly. From Berlin (Stromstraße 21) it is around 745 km via Frankfurt (Oder), the Polish A2 to Warsaw and the S17 to Lublin; by lorry that is about eleven and a half hours including breaks, which is more than one day's driving time – we plan two drivers or an overnight stop. If your address is in the old town, we clarify access in advance. We give you the fixed price after a survey, including for the way back to Berlin.

Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

From
planning to assembly
This guide explains what needs clarifying before a move to Lublin: which city districts there are, how access to the old town with an identifier works, how you register at the municipal office by day 30 and why no customs duty is due on household goods from Germany. Then there is the journey: around 745 km, more than one day's driving time by lorry. We do not give rents because they change quickly.

Frequently asked questions about moving to Lublin
City districts in Lublin: old town, centre and residential areas
Lublin is divided into 27 city districts. The old town (Stare Miasto) with its castle, Kraków Gate and cobblestones is a zone with an access ban; only vehicles with an identifier and delivery traffic at fixed times may enter. Next to it lies the centre, Śródmieście, with shopping streets and universities, and to the west Wieniawa and Sławinek. To the south-west follow large residential areas such as Czuby, Węglin and Rury, many of them with post-war residential blocks. For a move, access, floor and lift matter most: in the old town you need to clarify entry in advance, and in residential blocks the lift is often small. Which area suits you depends on your commute, university and budget.
Flat hunting, work and universities in Lublin
We do not give specific rents because they change quickly and depend heavily on location and condition; compare current listings on Polish portals and budget in złoty. Because many students live in the city, demand is high at the start of semester in October – start looking early. Lublin is home to five universities, including Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS), the Catholic University of Lublin (KUL), the University of Technology and the Medical University. To register, you need proof of the flat, such as the tenancy agreement. Giving notice in Berlin, deregistering at the registration office (Bürgeramt) and registering in Lublin are best planned backwards from moving-in day; if needed, we store your furniture in Berlin and deliver on the agreed date. What a home move includes is set out on the service page.
Fixed prices for your move – how we calculate
Our fixed prices at a glance: 1-room flat from €365, 2-room flat from €584, 3-room flat from €889, 4-room flat from €1,269. For houses and villas: an individual quote after a survey. For long-distance moves we charge from €3.80/km. Take advantage of our free survey to receive a binding quote.
The basis for your individual moving price
Every calculation is based on volume and distance (from €3.80/km). This is supplemented by floor, lift and a possible parking restriction zone. If required, we also include furniture assembly and a part load in your quote.

Lublin: access to the old town (Stare Miasto) with the removal van
Lublin's old town is a zone with an access ban. According to the City of Lublin's website (archived version from August 2025, article dated 14.02.2023), only vehicles with an identifier may enter. In addition, supply vehicles (6.00 am to 11.00 am), municipal service vehicles, the municipal police, the police and certain taxis may enter. Because times can change, confirm the current times with the city. The article does not mention moves separately; ask the city administration which identifier might apply to the removal van.
- Who can apply for an identifier: registered residents or people with legal title to a flat, businesses in the zone and organisers, including of renovations. There are short-term and long-term identifiers (one year from issue).
- Validity: it is only valid on the days and at the times stated in the application and does not exempt you from the parking fee in the paid parking zone.
- Spaces: according to the city there are around 30 parking spaces in the zone, so a maximum of 2 identifiers per flat.
- Enforcement: two cameras read number plates on ul. Noworybna and ul. Olejna. According to the city, a breach of the B-1 prohibition sign can be punished with a fine of 20 to 500 zł.
We plan the loading in Berlin with a parking restriction zone at the loading address.
Lublin: registering at the municipal office and customs on entry
As an EU citizen, you register your residence in Lublin at the municipal office (zameldowanie). According to the gov.pl portal (as of 11.03.2026), this must be done no later than the 30th day after moving into the flat at which you want to register. Registration is free of charge. You can submit it in person on paper or online via login.gov.pl with a Profil Zaufany or a qualified electronic signature.
- Documents: a valid travel document or other valid ID proving identity and nationality.
- Proof of the flat: tenancy agreement, land register extract, or an administrative or court decision. If you are not the owner, you need the owner's declaration that you live there, plus their legal title. Family members also need a valid residence card or other proof of the relationship.
- Certificate: the certificate of registration for permanent residence is free; the one for temporary residence costs 17 zł.
On customs: according to German customs, you can bring goods duty-free from any EU country if they are intended for your personal use or consumption; cash of €10,000 or more must be declared if you are asked. Customs' special rules for removal goods concern moves from non-EU countries, not from EU states. You will find all the steps for Poland in the guide Moving to Poland: customs, formalities and process, and the route in the long-distance move guide for Poland.
