Moving to Frauenfeld: Costs Process & Districts

From Berlin to the Murg
Moving to Frauenfeld: old town, neighbourhoods and the Thur plain
Guide
A move to Frauenfeld takes you to the capital of the canton of Thurgau, with around 27,200 inhabitants. The old town sits on a plateau above the Murg, next to the castle and town hall; to the west the Thur plain opens up. Residential neighbourhoods such as Kurzdorf, Langdorf, Huben or Gerlikon differ greatly in access and building style. We plan dismantling, transport and reassembly so that everything is in place on arrival day.
We come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21), not from the region: the lorry drives around 818 km to Frauenfeld, with two drivers or an overnight stop. We clarify the parking spot, access and house rules with you in advance; in Frauenfeld, using public land requires a permit from the city. We are liable for your belongings under § 451e HGB. The route, customs and deadlines are described on the page Moving Berlin – Frauenfeld; advice on 01625978461.

For parking on public land, you or we obtain the city's permit in good time. We charge for the move to Frauenfeld at a fixed price after a survey, whether it is a private move or a company relocation. Read more about life in the city in the Frauenfeld guide for newcomers.

Frequently asked questions about moving to Frauenfeld
The neighbourhoods of Frauenfeld at a glance
Frauenfeld is divided into several neighbourhoods. The Vorstadt includes the old town on the plateau above the Murg with Frauenfeld Castle, which houses the Thurgau Historical Museum. Next to it lie Kurzdorf and Langdorf, Ergaten-Talbach and Herten-Bannhalden. On the edge of town follow Huben, Gerlikon and Erzenholz-Horgenbach-Osterhalden, where it becomes more rural.
For the move, the name of the neighbourhood matters less than the address: a flat in the old town with a narrow staircase needs different planning from a house on the edge of town. Where the lorry can stand and whether a permit is needed for it, we clarify with you before the date.
Living, working and commuting in Frauenfeld
We do not give specific rents – they depend heavily on location and condition. As the capital of Thurgau, Frauenfeld is the seat of the cantonal administration; companies based here include SIGG, Sia Abrasives, Baumer and DocMorris, plus the sugar factory and a Swiss Post parcel centre. The military training ground on the Allmend is also an important employer.
The station is on the SBB line between Winterthur and Weinfelden, and the Frauenfeld-Wil railway ends here; by road the A7 and A1 connect the town. Since 1985 the Grosse Allmend has hosted Openair Frauenfeld, one of the largest hip-hop festivals in Europe.
Price overview: moving made easy
Your move starts at €375 for a 1-room flat and rises depending on size: €589 for 2 rooms, €915 for 3 rooms, €1,279 for 4 rooms. For larger properties such as a house or villa we prepare an individual quote. We charge long distances at €3.80/km for long-distance moves. Book your free survey now.
Calculating your moving price: the decisive factors
How much your move costs depends on the volume of your belongings, the distance (from €3.80/km) and the floor. An existing lift saves time and money. A parking restriction zone may also be necessary. Further services such as furniture assembly or part load round off the package.

Moving to Frauenfeld from Germany: customs and registration with the residents' services
Anyone moving from Germany to Frauenfeld crosses a customs border. According to the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZG), the most important condition for duty-free import of household goods is moving your residence to Switzerland. The items must also have been used by you personally for at least six months and continue to be used after import.
- The BAZG requires form 18.44 "Zollveranlagung von Übersiedlungsgut" (customs clearance of removal goods), which you present at the customs office of entry. The BAZG provides a "Liste Übersiedlungsgut" (list of removal goods) as a PDF.
- According to the BAZG, clearance is only possible during the customs office's opening hours, Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 11:30 and from 13:30 to 17:00.
- Questions are answered by the BAZG information centre on +41 58 467 15 15.
After arrival, you register with the residents' services of the city of Frauenfeld at Rathausplatz 4. The city states a registration deadline of 14 days; if you are moving from abroad, you register at the counter (tel. 052 724 52 74). For entry in the residents' register, the city states CHF 30. Foreign nationals present a valid passport or ID and, if necessary, the tenancy agreement. More on international transport can be found under International moving, and everyday life in the town is described in our article Living in Frauenfeld.
Frauenfeld: old town, Kurzdorf and parking on moving day
For the old town: regarding the planned upgrade of the town-centre streets, the city of Frauenfeld writes that in Freie-Strasse the traffic areas are dominated by motor traffic and parking spaces; in the redevelopment plans, access for emergency services is to remain open. In 2022 the city approved a framework credit of CHF 11.3 million for the project. Feedback from residents also calls for clearer entrances and exits at the Altstadt car park. In Zürcherstrasse (Vorstadt), deliveries for businesses are to remain guaranteed. So plan the removal van in such a way that emergency routes remain clear, and clarify the parking spot in advance. You can reach the city administration on 052 724 51 11.
We have not found a dedicated city page on parking bans for moves. The city points out that construction site set-ups and road closures require a permit from the Works Depot and Urban Green department (Gaswerkstrasse 16, tel. 052 724 53 03). For short-term road closures, the city requires the application at least 10 working days in advance and has the signage put up by the works depot. So ask early how your moving day will be handled there.
- Kurzdorf and other zones: the city has residents' parking zones (Ergaten, Kurzdorf, Mühletobel, Eisenwerk). According to the city, approval takes up to two working days, and the permit costs 30 francs.
- Small furniture: the bring-and-take day at the works depot only accepts items in good condition and small furniture.
An overview of permits can be found under Parking restriction zone, and the route from Berlin is described in our guide Long-distance move Berlin – Frauenfeld.
