Eindhoven guide
Moving to Eindhoven: your guide to the Brainport city
Tips and deadlines
Eindhoven has grown from the city where Philips was founded into a centre of technology and design. TU Eindhoven, the High Tech Campus and companies in the Brainport region such as ASML in neighbouring Veldhoven attract many skilled workers, students and families every year. Anyone moving to Eindhoven will find short distances by bike, an international community and very different districts – from the lofts in Strijp-S to the family neighbourhoods in Meerhoven.
We come from Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21) and drive around 648 km via the A2 and Venlo to Eindhoven; by lorry that takes about nine and a half hours including breaks. Within the EU your household goods need no customs papers. We quote the fixed price after the survey, including the return trip. More on this: Planning a move to the Netherlands.

What we handle on your move to Eindhoven
From Berlin to the Brainport region
We have no branch in the Netherlands; we come by lorry from Berlin-Moabit. That is why we ask about access, floor and staircase in advance – whether a loft in Strijp-S, a terraced house in Gestel or a flat in the Centrum. For steep staircases we plan a furniture lift, and we clarify access through the bollards in the centre with the municipality (Gemeente). We quote the fixed price after the survey; we are liable for your belongings under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre, and additional insurance is available for valuable items.

Your
move, our craft
A move to Eindhoven comes with a few particularities: registering with the Gemeente within five days, a tight housing market and often narrow access in neighbourhoods such as Strijp or Tongelre. In the centre, bollards control vehicle access. We take care of the logistics, from planning your private move to transporting bulky furniture by furniture lift. For TU Eindhoven students a part load is often cheaper; for families we plan assembly and storage in case the flat is not yet free.

Frequently asked questions about moving to Eindhoven
Eindhoven's districts at a glance
Strijp-S is considered the creative heart of the city – modern lofts, start-up offices and popular cafés have sprung up on the former Philips factory site, and the flats are in correspondingly high demand. Woensel in the north, by contrast, offers more affordable housing, a multicultural atmosphere and good links to the central station, which makes it particularly popular with families and students.
If you prefer somewhere quieter, Stratum or Gestel offer green residential areas with detached houses and good infrastructure. The new district of Meerhoven in the west scores with modern new builds and family-friendly planning, while the Centrum impresses with shopping, culture and short distances to the station – though at correspondingly higher rents.
Housing market and employers in Eindhoven
The housing market in Eindhoven is tight: demand from international professionals at ASML, Philips and numerous start-ups on the High Tech Campus has been driving rents up for years. The Centrum and Strijp-S are the most sought-after, Woensel and Gestel usually cheaper; current rents are shown on portals such as Pararius or Funda. If you start looking early and register with housing portals such as Woningnet, you have a better chance of finding a suitable home.
Alongside the big tech employers, TU Eindhoven also attracts thousands of students and researchers every year, which keeps the city young, international and dynamic. The combination of innovative strength, good transport links to Amsterdam and Germany and a high quality of life makes Eindhoven one of the most attractive moving destinations in the Netherlands.

Understanding moving costs: the main factors
A key cost factor is always the volume of your belongings. Distance is charged from €4.15/km, while the floor and lift can mean additional work. If a parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone) is needed, this is also reflected in the price. Separate terms apply to furniture assembly or a part load.

Eindhoven: exemption permit for no-parking areas and bollards
According to the municipality's website (archived version from September 2025), fixed rules apply in Eindhoven to parking and vehicle access. To park where parking is prohibited and to drive into traffic-free areas when the bollards are raised, you need an exemption permit under the RVV 1990. As an example, the municipality mentions living in an area with bollards and moving house. You apply via the municipality's online form.
- Duration and reason: You can apply for a minimum of 1 day and a maximum of 1 year. It is only granted with good reason and only if, according to the municipality, it is absolutely necessary.
- Waiting time: According to the municipality, the decision arrives by post within 8 weeks. So submit the application well before your moving date.
- Cost: The archived version lists 48.50 euros for 1 day and 97.00 euros for 2 days up to 1 year. The invoice comes by post; the municipality confirms current rates.
- Bollards: According to the municipality, the bollards in the centre, at Stratumseind/Catharinaplein and in Meerrijk are lowered from 7.00 to 11.00 a.m.
If your vehicle is stuck because the bollards have been raised, you can reach the operator (Handhabung) on 14040. For Strijp-S the municipality lists different rules and refers to mobility-s.nl. We also secure your loading point in Berlin with a parking restriction zone.
Eindhoven: registration at the Inwonersplein and residents' parking
If you move to Eindhoven from abroad, according to the municipality (archived version from April 2026) you register in person within 5 days of arrival. For this you need an appointment at the counter in the Inwonersplein, which you book online or on 14 040 (from abroad +31 40 2386000). Appointments are often taken quickly, and new slots are added regularly.
- What to bring: Originals of foreign certificates for you and your children, such as birth or marriage certificates, no copies, plus a valid passport or ID card for each person to be registered. According to the municipality, foreign documents usually have to be legalised. If you are moving in with someone who is not coming to the appointment, you need a written declaration from the owner or main occupant.
- Shorter stay: If you will be staying for less than 4 months in the coming six months, according to the municipality the register for non-residents (RNI) is responsible.
For parking at your new home, according to the municipality (archived version from June 2026) the residents' parking permit is available via the E-Loket. A maximum of 2 are possible per address. The rates from 1 January 2026 for the first permit per month: 4.72 euros in the Schil area, 11.79 euros in the centre; in residents' area E9 they are 11.79 euros (Schil) and 19.10 euros (centre).
