Arriving in Eindhoven: technology city in Brabant
Life on the Dommel and the Gender
Eindhoven lies in the Kempen region of North Brabant and, with just under 250,000 inhabitants (early 2026), is the fifth-largest municipality in the Netherlands. The city grew together from several parishes around 1900, as the Philips light-bulb factory attracted more and more workers; DAF came later. Today Eindhoven is regarded as the technology centre of the south of the country, shaped by the University of Technology (TU/e) and high-tech firms. This guide shows what newcomers from Germany deal with in the first few weeks: registration, BSN, flat hunting and getting around the city.
We have no branch in the Netherlands; we come from Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21). It is around 648 km to Eindhoven via the A2, the Ruhr area and Venlo, about nine and a half hours by lorry including breaks. There are no customs duties within the EU. How we plan cross-border moves is explained under International move. Whether it is a loft in Strijp-S or a terraced house in Woensel: after a survey or a video call we give you a fixed price.

A predictable move to Eindhoven
Survey or video, then a fixed price
For your move to Eindhoven we look at your household goods, floor and access – on site in Berlin or by video call – and then give you a fixed price. Assembly and storage appear as separate items in the quote; we are liable for damage under § 451e of the German Commercial Code (HGB), and additional insurance is available. Call us on 01625978461.
Quotes available individually based on workload, scheduling and the desired scope of services.

What we clarify beforehand
Planned in Berlin, arriving in Brabant
We drive by lorry from Berlin-Moabit to Eindhoven and therefore clarify in advance what matters on arrival day: the lift and loading zone at a residential tower in Strijp-S, the narrow stairs of a Dutch terraced house in Woensel or Stratum, the parking rules outside the door. Where the removal van is not allowed to stop, we ask the municipality (gemeente) for an exemption. We are liable for your belongings under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre of loading space. We coordinate the delivery day so that you can register within five days.

How we plan the route to Brabant
The fixed price for your move to Eindhoven is based on volume, floor, carrying distances and the roughly 648 km from Berlin. Furniture lift, assembly and any storage appear as individual items in the quote.

Shared load to Eindhoven
If you are moving to study at TU/e or Fontys, or are only bringing a few pieces of furniture, you can save with a shared load: your things travel together with other consignments heading for the Netherlands. In return you need some flexibility on the delivery day. Customs papers are not needed within the EU.

The
first trips to the authorities
If you are moving to Eindhoven permanently or staying for at least four of the next six months, according to the municipality you register in person at the Inwonersplein within five days of arrival – by appointment only, and appointments are scarce. Bring your passport or ID card and the originals of any foreign certificates. With your entry in the BRP population register you receive your citizen service number (BSN), which employers, banks and health insurers ask for. So book the appointment before the removal van sets off. What the municipality says about this is set out below.

What newcomers want to know: living in Eindhoven
Centrum, Strijp, Woensel – the seven stadsdelen
Eindhoven is divided into seven stadsdelen (districts): Centrum, Stratum, Tongelre, Woensel-Zuid, Woensel-Noord, Strijp and Gestel. The Centrum is home to the Markt, Eindhoven Centraal station and the TU/e campus; on its southern edge is Stratumseind, which, with over 50 cafés, is the longest bar street in the Netherlands.
The former Philips site Strijp-S belongs to the Strijp district and has its own station; since 2025 it has been home to the city's tallest building, the Lighthouse residential tower. Woensel-Noord has the Woensel shopping centre and the Catharina Ziekenhuis hospital. The municipality also includes the village of Acht and the new Meerhoven development near the airport.
Work, study and leisure
Eindhoven is Philips' most important production and research location, NXP Semiconductors and the VDL Groep are headquartered here, and there are also DAF and the High Tech Campus. ASML, the largest supplier to emerge from the Philips orbit, is based in neighbouring Veldhoven. TU/e was founded in 1956, and there are also Fontys and the Design Academy.
In your free time, there are the Genneper Parken with the preHistorisch Dorp, the Van Abbemuseum, the Parktheater by the Stadswandelpark and PSV with its stadium. Rented flats can be found on the usual portals; we don't quote rents without a reliable source.

What you should know about moving costs
The price depends primarily on volume and distance (from €4.25/km). But the floor and lift, as well as any necessary parking restriction zone, also have an effect. If you need additional furniture assembly or a shared load, you should say so in advance.

From Berlin to Brabant – and back
We plan moves from Stromstraße 21 in Berlin-Moabit, to Eindhoven and back. How the roughly 648 km work is described in our long-distance moving guide for Eindhoven.
Registering in Eindhoven: Inwonersplein, appointment and documents
According to the municipality of Eindhoven, anyone moving to Eindhoven permanently or staying in the Netherlands for at least four of the next six months registers in person within five days of arrival. The Inwonersplein is responsible; its counter is by appointment only. You book the appointment online or by phone on 14 040, or +31 40 2386000 from abroad. The municipality points out that appointments may be scarce because of high demand. In that case, try again later and book as early as possible.
Important for your documents:
- a valid passport or ID card for each person registering
- foreign certificates such as birth, marriage or divorce certificates in the original, not copies
- as a rule, legalisation of the foreign documents; the municipality gives details at nederlandwereldwijd.nl
For nationals of non-EU countries: before registering, you must first contact the immigration service IND. Anyone staying for less than four months is referred to the Non-Residents Records Database (RNI, Registratie Niet-Ingezetenen). According to the municipality, it is free of charge and provides a BSN, but requires a European passport. You will find an overview of costs and districts in our guide to moving to Eindhoven.
Districts in Eindhoven: Centrum, Strijp-S and how the city is divided
The municipality of Eindhoven divides the city into seven stadsdelen, 20 wijken and 116 buurten (districts, neighbourhoods and sub-neighbourhoods). The seven districts are Centrum, Gestel, Stratum, Strijp, Tongelre, Woensel-Noord and Woensel-Zuid. This is useful for flat hunting, as listings often give only the neighbourhood name. One example: Strijp-S, the former industrial site, belongs to the Strijp district and not to Centrum. According to the municipality, it lies next to Strijp-S station and the inner ring road and is being developed into a quarter for living and working. For the fourth construction phase, the municipality cites 1,400 homes.
Practical tips for your search:
- For every listing, check which stadsdeel and which wijk the address is in. The municipality provides the wijk and stadsdeel boundaries as open data at data.eindhoven.nl.
- New districts such as Strijp-S are still changing. At viewings, ask about the status of construction work in the surrounding area.
- Compare listings by stadsdeel and wijk, not just by price, and at every viewing note the distance to the station and to the inner ring road so that you can realistically judge your daily journeys.
If you are moving from Berlin, you will find the route and process in our long-distance moving guide for Eindhoven.
