Moving into assisted living or a care home: contracts deadlines, furniture

Senior move part 11
Assisted living or a care home: what really differs when moving
Contracts and deadlines
Assisted living and a care home sound similar, but they are different when it comes to moving. In assisted living (betreutes Wohnen) you usually rent your own small flat and also sign a contract for basic services such as an emergency call system or advice. In a care home, on the other hand, you move into a room; the basis is a care home contract under the Residential and Care Contracts Act (WBVG). On the service page Private move you can see what we take care of when packing and setting up – whatever the type of accommodation.
Before the move we agree with the facility when delivery can take place, how big the room is and which of your own furniture is allowed. Often only an armchair, a chest of drawers and a few pictures will fit. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive nationwide; destinations with their own page can be found in the locations overview. We can clear or store the rest of the old flat.

Planning the move into a care home together
Fixed price after a survey, delivery time agreed with the home
During the free survey we decide with you and your relatives which furniture fits into the new room and what happens to the rest. You then receive a written fixed price for the move, clearance or storage. We agree the delivery date directly with the facility. Your belongings are covered by liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB), and additional insurance is possible on request.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

How we support the move into a care home
Together with the home and the family
A move into assisted living or a care home usually involves several people: the senior, relatives and the facility. We talk to everyone, measure the new room if necessary and plan which furniture comes along. We give you the fixed price after the survey; your belongings are covered by liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB) (§ 451e: €620 per m³). Our helpers pack, carry and assemble. Whether in Berlin or as a long-distance move to join the children – you can reach us on 01625978461.

Care
home, contract, furniture
Part 11 of our series is devoted to moving into supported accommodation: how do assisted living and a care home differ, what deadlines apply to the tenancy agreement and care home contract, and which furniture can come along? Our services can be found on the Private move page. We also show how relatives can help if the facility is in another city and a long-distance move is coming up.

Questions about moving into a care home
Assisted living or a care home: the difference when moving
In assisted living you usually live in your own low-barrier flat with a tenancy agreement and book a basic service in addition, such as an emergency call system and a contact person in the building. A lot of your own furniture can come along, and the move is similar to an ordinary move into a smaller flat.
In a care home you move into a room; the basis is a care home contract under the WBVG. It can be terminated at any time without notice in the first two weeks, and after that by the third working day of a month to the end of that month (§ 11 WBVG).
Care home: the room, your own furniture and the rest
Ask the facility early how big the room is, what is already in it and which of your own furniture is allowed. A familiar armchair, pictures and photos help you settle in. The home often provides the care bed itself.
For everything that is not coming along, you need a plan: give it to the family, sell, donate, store or dispose of it. How this works in an orderly way is described in the article Household clearance step by step.

What determines the price when moving into a care home
Two central factors are the volume of your belongings and the distance – the latter is charged from €3.90/km. The floor, lift and a no-parking zone also affect the final price. If needed, furniture assembly and a part load complement the offer.
