After the move: car parking and ticket for the new journey to work

Commuter guide, part 8
Reorganising your journey to work after the move
Car, parking, ticket
For commuters, moving changes not only the address but the whole journey to work. If you drive, you have to have the address in your vehicle registration changed, and in many inner-city areas you need a parking permit. If you commute by bus and train, you switch over your ticket subscription. And sometimes the move is the right moment to change your mode of transport altogether.
Changing the address in the vehicle registration certificate (Fahrzeugschein) is compulsory and must be done without delay; you can keep your number plate even when moving to a different registration district. Also inform your car insurer, because your place of residence is factored into the premium. We take care of the move itself: at Beste Umzug Unternehmen you receive a fixed price after the survey. More about registration in the article Re-registering your car.

Fixed price after a survey, parking space on request
While we transport the furniture and boxes, you have time for the vehicle registration office, parking permit and ticket subscription. Call us on 01625978461. We survey your flat, then give you a fixed price and, on request, apply for the no-parking zone – so that your own car is not in the way on moving day.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

How we plan the move for car commuters
Parking space, access, time window
Car commuters know the problem: there is rarely space outside your own front door – let alone for a removal van. That is why we clarify access at both addresses during the survey and, on request, apply for the no-parking zone (Halteverbotszone); in Berlin the signs must be in place at least three full days beforehand. Park your own car somewhere else during this time. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21, Moabit) and drive within the city and nationwide. We give you the fixed price after the survey; your belongings are covered by liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB).

What to do for your journey to work after the move
After moving in, commuters have a short list around the car, parking and ticket. You should take care of these six points in the first few weeks – some of them straight away, others with a little more time.
Change registration
Inform your insurer
Apply for a parking permit
Switch your ticket
Check your mode of transport
Adjust your taxes
Part load instead of car-boot trips
If you only have a little furniture and a few boxes, a part load is often cheaper than a van of your own and quicker than ten trips with your car boot. Your belongings travel with other jobs; in return there is a time window rather than a fixed time.

Three
ways to organise your new journey to work
Moving is a good moment to rethink your journey to work. By car it is about registration, insurance and parking. By bus and train it is about the ticket, frequency and changes. By bike it is about the route and a place to park. Check all three for the new address before you commit. If you are moving to another city for your job, the car can also come along by transport – more under Long-distance moves.

Frequently asked questions about cars, parking and moving for commuters
Rethinking your journey to work when you move
With the new address, the route to work changes – and often the best mode of transport too. Check all the options for the new flat: how long does the journey take by car at peak times, and where do you park at work? Is there a direct rail connection? Is the route manageable by bike? Sometimes the move is the reason to get rid of the car, or not to buy a second one in the first place.
If you stick with the car, plan it into moving day: your own car should not be parked in the no-parking zone, and the boot stays free for the bag with your laptop and paperwork.
Registration, parking permit, ticket: the list after moving in
Changing the address in the registration certificate is compulsory and must be done without delay; you can keep your number plate. Inform your car insurer. In Berlin zones with parking management, you apply for the residents' parking permit at the registration office (Bürgeramt) – in Berlin a registered second residence is also sufficient, and the permit is valid for a maximum of two years.
Rail commuters change the address on their ticket subscription.
What does a move cost? All prices in detail
Before you plan your move, you should know the approximate costs. Our guide prices: 1-room flat from €359, 2-room flat from €615, 3-room flat from €889 and 4-room flat from €1,269. Larger properties such as a house or villa are calculated individually. For a long-distance move we charge from €4.15/km. For an exact quote we recommend a free survey on site.
How the moving price is calculated
The moving price is calculated primarily from the volume and the distance (from €4.15/km). Other factors are the floor, whether there is a lift and any no-parking zone. Additional services such as furniture assembly and a part load round off the offer.
