Long-Distance Move Berlin – Dordrecht: Route Process & Deadlines

Dordrecht guide
Long-distance move to Dordrecht – route, Ontheffing, registration
Planning and costs
A move to Dordrecht takes you to the oldest city of the former Holland, located where the Beneden Merwede divides into the Noord, Oude Maas and Dordtsche Kil. Because the Netherlands is in the EU, your household goods need no customs papers. Other points matter: registration with the Gemeente (municipality) within five days, an RVV exemption (RVV-Ontheffing) for the removal van in the Binnenstad (old town) and the long journey with statutory breaks. We take care of advice, packing, transport and assembly.
We come from Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21) and drive around 728 km via the A2 into the Ruhr area, via the A57 to the border and through North Brabant via the A73 and A59 to Dordrecht. By lorry, that is about eleven hours including breaks – more than one day's driving time, so we travel with two drivers or stay overnight on the way. We quote the fixed price after the survey, also for the return journey to Berlin. More on this: Formalities in the Netherlands.

What we take care of when you move to Dordrecht
Planned in Berlin, arriving on the Merwede
We have no branch in the Netherlands; instead we come by lorry from Berlin-Moabit. That is why we clarify access, floor and stairs in advance – in the gabled houses of the Binnenstad, often only possible with a furniture lift. We apply for the RVV-Ontheffing from the Gemeente in good time. We quote the fixed price after the survey or a video appointment; we are liable for your belongings under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre, and additional insurance is available for valuable items.

Moving
service without compromise
A move to the Netherlands raises many questions – from registering with the Gemeente, the BSN (citizen service number) and health insurance to access into the Binnenstad. There are no customs declarations within the EU. For Dordrecht, the RVV-Ontheffing, the autoluw (low-traffic) area in the city centre and furniture lifts for narrow gabled houses matter most. We tell you what is due when, and plan loading, the journey and assembly so that you can move in on arrival day.

Frequently asked questions about the long-distance move to Dordrecht
Customs and formalities when moving to Dordrecht
As the Netherlands is part of the EU, the classic customs declaration is generally not required for private moves. It is still sensible to have an inventory, copies of ID and proof of the change of residence for registration. Additional forms may be required if you are taking vehicles or valuables with you.
We help you compile all the necessary documents and stay in contact with the relevant authorities. This way you avoid unnecessary delays and ensure that your move across the border runs smoothly.
Special features and process of the move to Dordrecht
Dordrecht is conveniently located on several rivers, which has to be taken into account when approaching with larger removal vans. Narrow old-town streets and bridges often require careful route planning and suitable vehicles for the last mile. In addition, the Netherlands has its own rules on waste disposal and registration with the residents' registration office (Gemeente).
Our team plans the approach in advance and knows the local conditions in Dordrecht well. For a complete overview of our destinations, please visit our locations page or find out directly about our long-distance moves.
Costs for your next move
Plan your move stress-free! For a 1-room flat we charge from €369, for a 2-room flat from €609. For a 3-room flat, costs start at €909, and for a 4-room flat at €1,309. Houses and villas receive an individual quote. Longer distances? Long-distance moves cost from €3.85/km. Arrange a free survey.
How your moving price is made up
First of all, the volume of your furniture and boxes plays a decisive role. Then there is the distance, which is charged from €3.85/km. The floor and lift also affect the effort, while a parking restriction zone shortens loading times. If needed, we add furniture assembly or a part load.

Dordrecht: RVV-Ontheffing and access for the removal van
For removal vans that need to stand where parking or driving is normally not allowed, the Gemeente Dordrecht names the RVV-Ontheffing (exemption under the Dutch road traffic regulations). The municipality's page explicitly mentions the case of a "verhuiswagen" (removal van). It is applied for online via the municipality's Loket (online counter).
- Processing time: according to the municipality, it needs a maximum of 8 weeks for the decision. Anyone applying less than 6 weeks before the start cannot expect a timely answer.
- Costs: according to the municipality, the Ontheffing costs 73.35 euros per vehicle. An exemption from parking fees is not included.
- Area: according to the municipality, it is most often applied for in the autoluw (low-traffic) area and the pedestrian area in the city centre. A move within the autoluw area requires a separate access permit.
For access to these areas, the municipality lists several permits: a day Ontheffing outside the fixed time windows (application with DigiD or eHerkenning), a permanent exemption, and the Knipontheffing for passing through at the Vest or the Grote Markt.
If the removal van blocks the street completely, according to the Gemeente this must be reported via the Melvin portal; measures may only be put in place after approval. A furniture lift without a number plate is covered by the notification for objects on the street. The municipality answers questions on 14 078.
Tell us the address and access when you enquire, and we will plan the date around the municipality's lead time. Read more about parking restrictions under parking restriction zone.
Registration in Dordrecht: appointment, BSN and schedule
Anyone moving to Dordrecht from abroad must register in person with the Gemeente and book an appointment beforehand. According to the Gemeente Dordrecht, all family members who are to be registered must attend the appointment, including babies, young children and elderly people. Contact: +31 78 639 89 89 or [email protected].
- Deadline: according to the Rijksoverheid (Dutch central government), anyone who will live in the Netherlands for longer than 4 months must be entered in the BRP (Basisregistratie Personen, the personal records database) as a resident, within 5 days of arrival.
- Costs: according to the municipality, registration is free of charge. You pay for translations or legalisations of official documents yourself.
- Confirmation and BSN: at the appointment, you are entered in the BRP and receive a confirmation letter. According to the municipality, your citizen service number (BSN) is sent to you by post within three weeks.
The municipality does not give a list of documents to bring on this page. Ask about this when booking the appointment and have certificates translated in good time if necessary.
Because of the 5-day deadline, you should book the appointment before the move and align your arrival with it. We coordinate the arrival time and key handover with you, so that you are on site on moving day. What life in the city is like can be read in Living in Dordrecht.
