Furniture to Holland

Single pieces of furniture and part loads from Berlin to the Netherlands

Part load

Unsere Firma Professional on-site moving solutions with secure planning, flexible services and on-time execution.

Not every furniture transport to the Netherlands is a complete move. Often it is a sofa for a daughter in Utrecht, an inherited wardrobe or the furniture for a room in a shared flat in Amsterdam. For such part loads there are two options: a dedicated trip with a van or a shared load, where your furniture travels on a lorry that is heading in that direction anyway. From Berlin to Amsterdam it is around 650 km. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and plan even small transports as carefully as a private move.

Because the Netherlands is part of the EU single market, there are no customs formalities for used furniture and household goods – regardless of your nationality. Practical questions matter more: who receives the furniture at the destination, where may the vehicle stop, and will the piece fit through the stairwell? In many Amsterdam canal houses the stairs are so steep that large furniture comes in through the window. We give you the fixed price after photos or a survey.

Four questions before the trip

For single pieces of furniture to Holland

For a single piece of furniture or a small part load to the Netherlands, different things matter than for a big move. Customs plays no role, and registering with the municipality (gemeente) is only needed if you are moving there yourself. What counts is the vehicle, the date, the handover and the route into the building. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive from here to the Netherlands. We are liable for damage to household goods under the HGB, by law up to €620 per cubic metre of load space.

Shared load or dedicated trip?

With a shared load you share load space and costs, but a time window applies. A dedicated trip is easier to plan but more expensive.

Which vehicle?

Since July 2026, tachographs and driving time rules also apply to vans over 2.5 t in cross-border goods transport – we plan for this.

Who receives it?

If you are not at the destination yourself, name a person who will receive the furniture and check it for damage straight away.

How into the building?

Steep stairs in an old building or canal house? Then we clarify in advance whether the piece will be dismantled or come in through the window by furniture lift.
GOOD TO KNOW

Six facts for the transport to Holland

For a furniture transport to the Netherlands you need no customs papers, but you do need a complete list of the items with their dimensions. It is the basis for the quote and load planning – and, in the event of damage, for liability under the HGB.

01

No customs

Used furniture and household goods travel within the EU single market without a customs declaration. You still need an inventory list – for the quote and liability.
02

Newly bought?

New furniture does not need a customs declaration either. If you buy privately in Germany and have it transported yourself, German VAT applies.
03

Lorry tolls

Lorries over 3.5 t pay tolls in Germany and, since July 2026, the HGV charge (vrachtwagenheffing) in the Netherlands too. Vans up to 3.5 t pay neither.
04

Parking at the destination

Each municipality (gemeente) sets its own rules on where the vehicle may stop – some require a permit, others do not. We clarify this before the trip.
05

Register?

You only need to register with the municipality if you will live there yourself for more than four months – then within five days of arrival.
06

Liability

The moving company is liable for damage under the HGB up to €620 per cubic metre of load space. Report visible damage no later than the day after delivery.
TOWARDS THE NETHERLANDS

Shared load to the Netherlands

Ideal for just a few pieces of furniture
A shared load takes individual pieces of furniture, appliances or boxes from Berlin to the Netherlands when a lorry is heading that way anyway. You share load space and transport costs with other orders. We agree collection and delivery within a time window. If a furniture lift or a parking permit from the municipality is needed at the destination, this is stated in the quote in advance.

We take care of every detail

If you are moving to the Netherlands yourself, official formalities are added to the furniture transport: registering with the municipality (gemeente), the BSN (citizen service number), health insurance and your car. These steps are covered in our checklist for emigrating to the Netherlands. If it is only about individual pieces of furniture – for children at university, a second home or an heirloom for relatives, for example – none of this applies. Then what counts is the dimensions, the date, the route into the building and a person who receives the furniture at the destination. For a complete household, read more under long-distance moves.

Planning safe and relaxed

A list with dimensions, photos and both addresses is the basis. With it we plan the vehicle, date and handover for your furniture transport to the Netherlands and give you the fixed price.

Furniture, boxes, transport routes

With suitable packing, blankets and straps, a sofa can easily cope with around 650 km. At the destination we clarify steep stairs, narrow doors and the route from the vehicle into the building.

Costs, timing and special cases

The time window and costs depend on whether a shared load or a dedicated trip fits. We discuss special cases such as a piano or an antique in advance so that the price stays predictable.

FAQ

Questions about furniture transport to the Netherlands

Customs, duration, costs, shared load and handover – for single pieces of furniture and part loads.
No. The Netherlands is part of the EU single market, and used furniture and household goods from Germany travel without a customs declaration – regardless of nationality. Separate rules apply to vehicles and pets. For the quote and liability we still need a complete list of the items with their dimensions.

No customs, but clear arrangements

The Netherlands is part of the European Union and the single market. Used furniture and household goods from Germany therefore need no customs declaration – regardless of your nationality. Separate rules apply only in individual cases such as vehicles (registration via the RDW authority) or pets (microchip, rabies vaccination, EU pet passport).

If you are moving yourself and staying longer than four months, register with the municipality (gemeente) within five days of arrival. For a pure furniture transport to the Netherlands – for children, friends or a second home, for example – this does not apply. Then what matters most is exact dimensions, the destination address with floor and a person who receives the furniture at the destination and checks it for damage.

Costs and process of a furniture transport to Holland
