Frequent questions
Customs and formalities when moving to Austria
As Austria is a member of the EU, there are no customs formalities and no import charges for private household goods when moving from Germany. An inventory list is still useful, for example for insurance and for checking during unloading. If you move your main residence to Austria and bring a car, under Austrian law you generally have to register it with an Austrian registration office within one month.
Registering your residence on time with the registration office (Meldeamt) in Bregenz is also important: according to the city, the deadline is three days after moving into the accommodation. If you stay longer than three months, EU citizens also apply for a registration certificate. In Germany you deregister when moving abroad.
What makes Bregenz and the Vorarlberg region special
Bregenz lies on the eastern shore of Lake Constance and is the state capital of Vorarlberg, with short distances to Switzerland and Germany. The Bregenz Festival on the lake stage and the Pfänder mountain make the city well known; housing is in demand, so it is worth starting your flat search early alongside planning the move. If possible, avoid scheduling moving day during the festival season.
For a long-distance move to Bregenz, Austria has its own traffic rules: for vehicles up to 3.5 t the vignette, above that the distance-based GO toll. The motorway bypasses the city through the Pfänder Tunnel. You will find other routes under Long-distance moves.
What a move costs – clearly explained
Transparency matters to us. That is why you will find our guide prices here: 1-room flat from €339, 2-room flat from €599, 3-room flat from €884, 4-room flat from €1,344. For a house or villa you always receive an individual quote, tailored to your needs. Long-distance moves are no problem either – here we calculate from €3.95 per kilometre. The calculation is most accurate after a free survey on site.
These factors determine your moving price
Besides the volume of your belongings, the distance to be covered plays a central role, which we charge from €3.95/km. If there is no lift or the flat is on a high floor, the effort increases. A parking restriction zone also ensures a smooth process, as do our furniture assembly and shared load services.

Route Berlin – Bregenz: lorry rules, tolls and driving times
A long-distance move from Berlin to Bregenz runs from our base in Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21) around 727 km via the A9, A7 and A96 to Lake Constance and finally into Vorarlberg. By lorry that is about eleven hours including breaks; loading and unloading come on top.
In Germany, under § 30 (3) StVO, heavy removal lorries are subject to a driving ban on Sundays and public holidays from 0.00 to 22.00 for lorries over 7.5 tonnes permissible total weight used for commercial goods transport. Public holidays include New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, 1 May and 3 October; Corpus Christi and All Saints' Day only apply in certain federal states, including Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. We therefore do not schedule departure or arrival on such days.
In Austria, according to the Business Service Portal (Unternehmensserviceportal), vehicles over 3.5 tonnes technically permissible total weight pay the distance-based GO toll on motorways and expressways. A GO-Box must be fitted in the vehicle before entering; rates depend on the number of axles and emission class, among other things. For vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes, according to oesterreich.gv.at, the vignette applies.
For drivers, the EU driving-time rules under Regulation (EC) No 561/2006 apply: at most nine hours a day, ten on two days a week, and a 45-minute break after four and a half hours. That explains why the journey may be spread over several days. Details of the process can be found in the long-distance moving guide for Austria.
