Long-Distance Move Berlin – Arlon: Route Registration, Duration

From Berlin to Arlon
Via Trier and Luxembourg: 796 km to the capital of the province of Luxembourg
Route, duration, registration
A move to Arlon takes you from Berlin on the A9 to the Hermsdorfer Kreuz interchange, on the A4 past Erfurt and Eisenach, via the A5, A3 and A48 to Koblenz and on via the A1 to Trier. The last kilometres run through the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (A1, A6) to the Belgian border. That is around 796 road kilometres – roughly 12 hours by lorry including statutory breaks, which is more than one day's driving time. We therefore plan two drivers or an overnight stop. No customs duties apply: Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium are EU members.
We come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and take care of packing, dismantling, transport and assembly in your new home. The town of Arlon does not describe a dedicated procedure for removal parking spaces; we therefore clarify the stopping place for the lorry in advance with you and the town administration. For households we offer the private move with assembly. After a survey we quote a fixed price that already includes a second driver or an overnight stop. You can find other routes under Long-distance moves.

Frequently asked questions about a long-distance move to Arlon
No customs, but deadlines: formalities in Belgium
As Belgium is a member of the European Union, there is no customs declaration and there are no import duties on private household goods for your move to Arlon from Germany – not even in transit through Luxembourg. An inventory list is still sensible, for liability and unpacking, especially for valuables or art.
Among the most important formalities is registration at the town hall (Service Population, or the Service des Étrangers for those moving in from abroad); official guides mention eight working days. As an EU citizen you first receive the registration certificate (Annex 19), and after the police check the electronic EU card follows. Your German driving licence remains valid as an EU licence, and exchanging it is not required. Then come health insurance and, where applicable, registering your car; we plan the right private move with you.
Process and special features of a move to Arlon
Arlon is the capital of the Belgian province of Luxembourg in Wallonia and lies close to the border with the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The official language is French; in the Arelerland, Arelerland Platt is also spoken, a dialect closely related to Luxembourgish. The process of a long-distance move starts with the survey in Berlin, after which you receive a fixed-price quote and agree on packing and loading dates. Many people commute from Arlon to Luxembourg, so start looking for a flat early.
In the old town, streets are narrow and parking spaces scarce. The town has no dedicated page for reserving removal parking spaces; we clarify the stopping place in advance with you and the town administration. For smaller loads a shared load is worthwhile, while larger households book the complete long-distance move service.
Fair prices for every moving need
Small or large – we have the right offer for every moving need. A 1-room flat costs from €369, a 2-room flat from €594. For 3 rooms we charge from €889, for 4 rooms from €1,344. We calculate larger moves into houses or villas individually to offer you fair terms. For long-distance moves a price from €4.10 per kilometre applies. Ideally, book a free survey straight away.
How your moving price is composed
First of all, the volume of your furniture and boxes plays a decisive role. Then there is the distance, charged from €4.10/km. The floor and lift also affect the effort involved, while a parking restriction zone shortens loading times. If needed, we add furniture assembly or a shared load.

Arlon: registration at the town's Service Population
According to the town, anyone settling in Arlon must contact the Service Population at the town hall. The change of residence is reported by the “reference person of the household”, i.e. the adult who usually handles the household's contact with the administration. If you move in with someone else, that person fills in a form issued by the municipality. The town also points out that the registration can be done via the online citizens' portal (E-Guichet).
For moves from abroad the town requires:
- the deregistration certificate from your previous municipality abroad,
- a marriage or divorce extract if your marital status changed abroad,
- birth extracts for children born abroad.
After a positive check by the police, which according to the town takes place about three weeks after the application, you will be called in again to update your ID card. The Service Population is located at Rue Paul Reuter 8, 6700 Arlon, telephone +32 63 24 56 04. It is open in the mornings from 8.30 to 12.00, in the afternoons by appointment only, and on Saturdays from 10.00 to 12.00, also by appointment. For foreign nationals moving in from abroad, the town lists the Service des Étrangers (+32 63 24 56 73). The town's pages are in French. You can find more about the town in the Arlon moving guide.
Arlon: parking, bulky waste and recycling centre
According to the town, parking in Arlon's town centre is chargeable from 8.30 to 18.00. At the parking meter you enter your number plate; one hour per day is free and can be used in portions of 15, 30 or 45 minutes. On Saturdays the town adds a free hour to every paid hour, so that, according to the town, you park for three hours for one euro. If there is no parking ticket behind the windscreen, a flat fee of €10 per half day is due. The town does not describe a dedicated procedure for reserved removal spaces on the pages we checked; clarify the stopping options for the lorry directly with the town administration in advance.
Bulky waste often builds up before moving in. According to the Ville d’Arlon, there is a bulky waste collection on request as well as the recycling centre (Recyparc) on the Route de Neufchâteau, telephone 063 22 95 25. It is open from Tuesday to Friday from 10.30 to 18.00 and on Saturdays from 9.00 to 18.00; it is closed on Sundays, Mondays and public holidays. Well-preserved furniture is collected free of charge from your home by the Ressourcerie Famenne Ardenne Gaume (telephone 0800 118 78), which according to the town comes within ten working days; the items must be ready on the ground floor. You put household waste out on the street between 8 pm the evening before and 5 am on collection day. The long-distance route is described in Long-distance move to Belgium; you can find our offer under Long-distance move.
