Arriving in Feldkirch: A Town Where Three Countries Meet
Life on the Ill
With 36,643 inhabitants (early 2026), Feldkirch is the second-largest town in Vorarlberg after Dornbirn and the westernmost municipality in Austria. The town lies at the mouth of the Ill valley and borders Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Because of the regional court, the chambers of commerce and labour and Vorarlberg's largest state hospital, it is known as the “secret state capital”. This guide shows what newcomers take care of in the first weeks.
We have no branch in Austria; we come from Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21). It is around 760 km to Feldkirch via the A9, A7 and A96 to Lindau and on via the A14, about eleven and a half hours by lorry including breaks. There is no customs between Germany and Austria. We plan the home removal at a fixed price after a survey. The route is described on the page Moving Berlin – Feldkirch.

Our planning for your move-in
Planning from Berlin, Arrival on the Ill
We drive by lorry from Berlin-Moabit to Feldkirch, so we clarify beforehand what matters on arrival day: the narrow lanes and stairwells of the town centre around the Marktplatz and Schattenburg castle, hillside locations in Tosters or Nofels, access in Gisingen or Levis. Where the removal van cannot stop, we clarify the rules with the town. For your belongings we accept liability under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre of load space; additional insurance is available. We set the delivery day so that you can hand in your registration form (Meldezettel) within three working days.

How We Plan the Route to Vorarlberg
We pack pianos, antiques or pictures separately, because in the old buildings of Feldkirch's town centre stairs and doors are often narrow. The fixed price for your move to Feldkirch is based on volume, floor, carrying distances and the roughly 760 km from Berlin; assembly and storage are listed individually in the quote.

Small Moves to Feldkirch
If you are moving to Feldkirch to study at the state conservatory or for your first job and are only bringing a few pieces of furniture, you can save with a shared load: your things travel together with other consignments towards Vorarlberg. For this you need some flexibility on the delivery day.

After
unpacking
In Feldkirch, according to the town, you hand in the registration form within three working days at the citizens' service (Bürger:innenservice), signed by you and by the accommodation provider; registration is free of charge. After that come nursery or school, bank and insurance, and your first trip to the recycling centre in Gisingen. You get around by city bus, which runs every 15 minutes on most lines, and by train towards Bregenz, Innsbruck or Zurich. What the town says about this is set out below.

Questions About a Fresh Start in Feldkirch
Seven Districts from Altenstadt to Tosters
Since the creation of “Greater Feldkirch” in 1925, the town has consisted of seven districts (Fraktionen): Innenstadt (around 3,800 inhabitants), Altenstadt (6,200), Gisingen as the largest district (10,300), Levis (3,100), Nofels (4,600), Tisis (5,600) and Tosters (6,700). The town centre lies on the Ill below the Schattenburg castle; the original village of Feldkirch is today's Altenstadt.
On the Ardetzenberg in the middle of the town lies the wildlife park with free admission, and vines are grown on the slopes. Apart from the main station, there are also railway stops in Altenstadt, Gisingen and Tisis.
Work, learning and leisure
Feldkirch is home to many institutions: the regional court with its prison, the Vorarlberg chambers of commerce and labour, the state's largest hospital and the state surveying office. The town has been a bishop's seat since 1968 and a university town since the founding of the state conservatory in 1977; there is also the Vorarlberg University of Teacher Education. Many people commute across the nearby border to Liechtenstein and Switzerland.
Culturally, the Montforthaus, reopened in 2015, offers concerts and congresses, and in summer the Poolbar Festival runs for six weeks. Then there is the wildlife park on the Ardetzenberg, Vorarlberg's largest zoological garden, and walking paths around the Schattenburg. We do not give rents without a reliable source.
Fair prices, clear figures
We focus on fairness and clarity: we move a 1-room flat from €354, a 2-room flat from €599. For 3 rooms costs start from €889, for 4 rooms from €1,289. For a house or villa there is an individual quote, tailored to your situation. We charge long-distance moves from €4.15/km. The easiest way to clarify everything else is during a free survey.
Moving prices: the decisive criteria
Important factors are the volume, the distance (from €4.15/km), floor and lift. A parking restriction zone may also be required. We charge separately for furniture assembly and shared load.
