A Furniture Transport: What to Look Out For

Look closely
Furniture transport: how to recognise care
Quote, equipment, final check
Whether a furniture transport will go well can be seen even before moving day. Careful furniture packers want to see the furniture, or at least measurements and photos, ask about the stairwell, lift and parking, and write down what is to be dismantled, padded and reassembled. On the day itself you recognise care by the blankets, film, edge protection and tension straps – and by the fact that delicate items such as glass display cabinets or designer furniture get their own packaging. Anyone who works like this also asks where each item goes in the new flat and plans the loading order accordingly.
What the quote says is also important: a fixed price with itemised costs instead of a vague flat rate, and a clear statement on liability. Under the HGB, liability for household goods is €620 per cubic metre; if you are having valuable items transported, ask about additional insurance. Whether a heavy couch or a bulky wardrobe – we are happy to advise you without obligation on 01625978461. Also check who applies for the parking restriction, whether dismantling and assembly are included and how damage is reported – this belongs in writing in the quote.

Quote with survey for your furniture transport
Fixed price with itemised costs
A good quote begins with a survey – on site or by video. After that you receive a fixed price from us in which dismantling, transport, assembly, packing and parking restriction are listed separately. This way you can compare and know before moving day what you are paying for what. Call us on 01625978461 for this.

What we pay attention to ourselves when carrying
Protection for furniture and building
During a furniture transport we protect not only the furniture but also the stairwell, door frames and floors. We carry heavy items with straps and enough staff, check narrow spots beforehand using your measurements, and if something will not fit through the door, a furniture lift is used. What is included is set out in the fixed price; we are liable for your belongings under the HGB. Whether a private move or single items – the standard is the same.

Our moving services at a glance
Most problems with a furniture transport can be clarified beforehand: measurements, access, liability and price. The more of this is set out in writing in the quote, the less has to be negotiated on moving day.

Your
move, our craft
The furniture transport is often the most demanding part of a move. Besides carrying, dismantling, assembly and the right packaging all count. How to recognise a reputable company in general is described in our guide how to recognise a reputable moving company. For long routes, read more under long-distance moves; places with their own pages can be found under locations. The points below help you compare quotes and recognise on moving day whether the work is careful – from padding to the final check.

Frequently asked questions: what to look out for?
What to look out for in the quote
A reliable quote for a furniture transport is based on a survey or on a list with measurements and photos. Make sure that dismantling, transport, assembly, packing, floors and parking restriction are listed separately and that it is clear whether the price is a fixed price. A flat rate without details leaves open what will be charged extra in the end.
Also ask who applies for the parking restriction and what applies to longer carrying distances. For household goods the company is liable under the HGB at €620 per cubic metre; whether that is enough for your furniture or additional insurance makes sense is something to clarify before booking.
What to look out for on moving day and afterwards
On moving day, furniture should be padded before it is moved, and the stairwell and door frames protected. Screws and fittings belong, labelled, with the piece of furniture they came from. Take valuables and documents with you yourself.
At the final check you inspect every item. Note visible damage straight away and report it no later than the day after delivery, and hidden damage within 14 days (§ 451f HGB). Photos help to clarify matters. Read more about the scope of services under furniture transport.
Moving costs explained in brief
