Finding the right moving date – bridge days weekday, end of the month

Guide for working people · Part 7
The right moving day: weekday, end of the month and bridge days compared
A date with a plan
If you work full time, you usually have little room for manoeuvre with your annual leave – which makes the right moving date all the more important. It depends on three things: the end of your old tenancy, the days you can take off work and the availability of the moving company. We take care of planning, packing on request and transport at a fixed price after a survey; your belongings are covered by liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB). You can read more about our private move service there.
A particularly large number of people move at the end of the month, because tenancy agreements usually end on the last day of the month. If you have the old and new flat in parallel for a few days, you can switch to the middle of the month and find more free dates. We take care of the no-parking zone (Halteverbotszone) and reassembling your furniture on request. We are based in Berlin; destinations with their own page can be found under locations.

Request your preferred date now – especially for the end of the month
Secure free dates early
Call us on 01625978461 and give us two or three possible days. We will tell you which ones are free and, if necessary, suggest alternatives in the middle of the month. After the survey you receive a fixed-price quote – then you can apply for your leave.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

How we find the right date with you
Availability open, date binding
We tell you early which days are free, so that you can plan your leave around them – not the other way round. After the survey the date is binding, as is the fixed price for the agreed services; Whether it is a local private move or a long-distance move with a loading and an unloading day: we plan the days so that they fit your work schedule. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21); destinations with their own page are listed under locations.

Six rules for choosing the date
The best moving date is the one on which your tenancy, your job and the moving company all fit together.
These six rules help working people find it, save leave and keep the period of double rent short – from the notice letter to the choice of weekday.
Tenancy first
Use the overlap
Check bridge days
Friday, not Monday
Ask early
Avoid busy work weeks
Part load: the date depends on the route
With a part load, your household goods travel together with other orders. The day therefore depends on the route – if you have some leeway in your calendar, you save money.
This is particularly worthwhile for long-distance moves with little furniture, for example to a flat at your new place of work.

What
matters when choosing the date
The seventh part of our series is about the moving date: end of the month or mid-month, Friday or bridge day, overlap between the old and new flat. If you choose the day cleverly, you need less leave and find it easier to get a free date with the moving company. If your job takes you to a new city, you will find additional information on our long-distance moves. That way the move fits into your working life rather than the other way round.

Frequently asked questions about choosing a moving date
Bridge day, Friday, mid-month: timing your moving day cleverly
Instead of sacrificing a whole week of leave, a cleverly chosen bridge day is often enough: if a public holiday falls on a Thursday, you move on Friday and have the weekend for unpacking. Without a bridge day, Friday is the best weekday – a move on a Monday means a working week surrounded by boxes.
Most tenancies end at the end of the month, so the last days of the month are in correspondingly high demand. If you have the old and new flat in parallel for a few days, switch to the middle of the month. How to still get a date at the end of the month is explained in the article Moving at the end of the month.
Aligning the date with your job, landlord and the authorities
A good date suits everyone involved. Check at work which weeks are free of closings, trade fairs or project launches. Ask the new landlord from when you will get the keys, and the old one when the handover will take place. Set the mail forwarding order (Nachsendeauftrag) to start on moving day; for private customers it runs for six months.
Also plan in the change of registration: you have two weeks after moving in (§ 17 BMG). If the move falls shortly before a long weekend, there is enough time afterwards for the registration office (Bürgeramt) and for settling in to the new flat.
How do we calculate our moving prices?
Our pricing is easy to follow: 1 room from €349, 2 rooms from €579, 3 rooms from €915, 4 rooms from €1,344. The reason: the more furniture and boxes, the greater the effort. With houses and villas every move is different – which is why there is always an individual quote here. Distances also play a role: we charge for long-distance moves from €3.80 per kilometre. Contact us for a free survey and an exact quote.
What determines the price besides the date
- Volume of the goods transported
- Distance from €3.80/km
- The floor and whether there is a lift
- Need for a no-parking zone
